    sub D help

Tech showed perhaps the most simple way to do it. My approach would require a few more steps and some additional geometry. The end result would be something a bit softer and a little more realistic. I should have time tomorrow to post a series of step by step series screenshots to get you started. Once you get the hang of it, you can tackle some more difficult shapes. Do you happen to have a better image of the wrapper? That would be helpful but not completely necessary. If you look in the "tutorial" section of this forum you will find a 3 part series I did on sub-d modeling a leather chair. It might be a bit more than you want to tackle now, but it's something you can play around with if you care to.

I do this sort of thing all the time. If you need some more advanced help let me know.

    sub D help

Sometimes I look back over old posts to pick up a tip or 2. When I found this one, I realized I never did get around to doing a sub d tray. So I gave it a go this morning. After a couple of false starts I was able to produce this model using nothing but the sub d tools. It's a clean mesh with no triangles, which I always try to avoid.

    VRay and Renderzone

We are locked down tight. Trying to get anything resolved with IT takes weeks not days. My trial expired and they never did get back to me.

    VRay and Renderzone

If I create a model in VRay and hand it off to someone who only has Renderzone will the mapping still work? I am supposing the answer is no.

    VRay and Renderzone

Unfortunately I can't get the trial version to work due to our firewall blocking VRay trying to connect to their server. No worries. You told me what I need to know

" and when deleting objects related to opengl" Yep.

    2d people

Seems to me I tried it a while back and it came in with the maps screwed up. I will give it another. I seldom us them but it could be a handy option.

How do you handle the mapping?

The tabs along the top right aren't working either. The ones where you access your messages, profile, etc

I thought I was being shadow banned....
  13. Mapping in C4D is a breeze. I also like it's sub-d modeling tools. Unfortunately, in my current position I am not allowed to use it.
  14. The entire "decal map" thing needs to go away. We should be able to apply any map in the same workspace, and see it real time without the need to render it. FZ also needs to support Photoshop layers.

    SubD mirror / symmetrical modeling

Sub D modelers have a symmetry tool because it's the fastest way to work in that mode. In fact, every program I have ever used has one except FZ. My guess is it was omitted because of cost.

    Two questions

I have my "ghost" turned off. It's annoying to be.

    SubD mirror / symmetrical modeling

FZ does not have a symmetry tool as do other sud-d modelers. A glaring oversight. I have asked for this since sub-d was introduced.
  18. You can edit grouped objects by unlocking the group or right click and select "edit group". You can select a face by using the "autopick" while holding down the command key (on Mac), or by using the "faces option" from the "tool options" pick pallet

8.6.2 Crash --> SubD and Reshape

It's been doing that since the addition of sub-d modeling. The toolset is ok, but they still need work to bring them up to snuff.

Us Lefties have been ahead of the game all along.

The "decal map" thing is laughable. I feel like I stepped back in time.

CRASH again and again.. please help!

CRASH again and again.. please help!

I think my computer would crash if I even mentioned a 1.3 gb file.

    MAYDAY! MAYDAY!

I have warned my co-workers numerous times about using components but they won't listen. I got bit early on and have never used then since. Absolute disaster waiting to happen.

    sub D help

I am 100% certain your problems are caused by the triangulated geometry. I realize that in a couple of the sub-d tutorials FZ shows using triangles, but I never use them for 2 main reasons: 1. They tend to cause “pinched” geometry (especially on corners and edges). 2. You can’t sub-divide triangles any further, so you essentially paint yourself into a corner. I have attached a little guide that I did for one of my co-workers, to help them understand what causes triangles and how to avoid them. Maybe it will be of help to you.
