Hi Des, thank you for your answer. I already checked the extensions manager but the STEP translator is not even available... This software can be so frustrating...

Thanks Andrew, so scene files are the weapon of chice. but, when looking over to vray for sketchup implementation you will find options that allow you to control the detail level of the preview mesh for scene files when exporting or importing. i found that the "normal" mesh preview is often to complex and slows down my ui, especially when importing trees with lots of detail. Therefore it would be great if formz implemets those options too. So to sum it up, "normal" vrscene preview is to detailled and "box" is to simplified. We need the same import/export options for vrscenes that you find in other implementations.

Is there a rough date for the release?

When exporting a vrscene from e.g. sketchup you have an export dialog where you can set the preview-detail-level. That is extremly useful when exporting objects with a lot of faces like trees or other foliage. I think the whole idea behind vrscene and vrproxy is to keep your main working file lean and the shaded view snappy. now with formz i could not find those export settings. When importing a tree the preview detail level is way to high, even in normal mode. bounding box is to low and makes it hard to place objects precisely. Does anyone know where to find the export settings or if formz will implement this in the future? To me this is a key function for arranging complex scenes in formz and would actually solve alot of other problems that are present at the moment with formz and vray.

Hi Andrew, is it possible to export V-Ray scene files from FormZ in order to place them in another FormZ file?

I tried your go to fix Andrew but it does not work for this specific problem. In my opinion formz should solve those issues before they sell the plugin to customers. When using the generic vray material inside formz with hires textures, the formz file gets ridiculously big and the material editor slows down so much that it is not useable anymore. I think thats because formz decompresses (for example jpeg) textures to their uncompressed file size. For example: A 2,5 mb jpeg texture can translate to 20 mb when uncompressed... If you have 4 textures in your material (Color, Reflection, Glossiness, Bump) you end up with a increased file size of approx. 80 mb for one material only!!! So i think that is not an option if you want to build a scene for e.g. interiour rendering with lots of textures since the file size will just get to big. To sum things up, i think the plugin is not really ready for a fluid and professional workflow. I hope that the guys at formz will manage to fix those isssues since i would LOVE to do modeling AND rendering inside formz. For now i will keep using blender and cycles for the visualization part...

I could not find a way to make textures from an external vray material file appear in the shaded view of formz (use vray material file) only the materials that came with the plugin have a low res texture representation. I treid to scale down the textures from 8K to 1K but it doesnt help. That makes it impossible to map self created vray materials in formz since you simply dont see the texture. I think this is an essential functionality to use vray in a professional way and also to sell this plugin for reasonable money. I love formz and vray but i dont want to pay for a faulty product. Did someone experienced the same problem or am i doing something wrong here?

Sorry guys for this potentialy stupid question, but where can i download the vray for formz plugin? i downloaded and installed the latest formz build 9985 and the vray licence software, but there is no vray available in formz... can someone help?

hi pylon, now everthing works just perfect! thank you

hi pylon, i successfully licensed maxwell render and maxwell studio, but within Form Z 8.5 in the maxwell fire aplication i still have the text saying "demo mode enabled"
when i bought maxwell 4.1 it came with two seperate serial numbers, one for studio and one for the plugin
but i only had the chance to enter one of them when starting the maxwell render aplication
are you shure there is no place inside the plugin where i cat licence or activate it?
another thing is that it is not posiible to lauch either maxwell render or studio from Form Z, there is just nothing happening... i already checked the filetype assignment and it is properly set to the maxwell aplications...

Hi, how do i register my purchased Plugin that came with a serial inside the form z software?
