archigraphica reacted to Bartjuan in Monitor Scaling on High resolution displays
Should formZ Palettes scale when moving between screen on multi-monitor setups.
I have a HP Zbook with a 4K screen, I have two additional monitors connected through a dock.
for most apps, windows that are dragged from the primary display to the other displays scale automatically.
FormZ Palettes do not Scale. is there a setting I am missing or is this expected behavior?

    Thanks!

+1 for scaled DWG export at 1:1 scale of 3D model directly from FormZ.

Here's an easy one.  I'm working on a building with multiple components.  Exterior, Interior, FFE, etc.  I'm old school so I have things divided up by layers.  The issue is going back and forth between different layer configurations.  (In C4D I would use TAKES) I was trying to do this with the Scene's pallet which I haven't really used before, but that doesn't appear to do what I'm after.  If I could suggest adding 3-4 configuration buttons to the top of the pallet. (see the attached image) It could be as simple as setting your layers like you want then CNTL-LMB to save the configuration to that button.  That way you could always click the button and have bring the configuration back.  Make sense?  Easy to do? thanks.

archigraphica reacted to AHTOH in It took 4 minutes to get this model to Layout
I understand that I don`t need to update drawings all the time and there are workarounds and so on. But also I understand that my workflow needs and contains of drafting about 80/20 with modeling. And I need to make 2D more than 4 times than I need 3D. About the same as a majority of your customers. And since proper Drafting module is abandoned I have to do "odd" models to somehow workaround this.
Also I understand if I will explode of unlink contents of frame I wont be able to draw inside of it because I have no Idea how and why to divide every single dimension of object I draw to 15 or 50 or 25 or 100 or 200 in my head WHILE I HAVE A COMPUTER in front of me. You guys decided this will be a good idea to make me to do it.
You there in AutoDesSys should understand that pretty models with renders is just a fraction of any architect/designer work. Most of the time we are expressing ourselves with drafts, blueprints and tech drawings.
But what I see — you are deaf to our real needs we express for years. And I foresee you will delete this message without replying to it too.

It would be a honest reply from ADS to say to there users: Sorry, but stop using Layout, because we need to much time to help you with workarounds to use it.

yes.  Drafting has always been a lost opportunity for ADS.  Look at how many use Draftsight.

archigraphica got a reaction from qapedkat in unselectable geometry
Here's a pretty common (once a day minimum) problem. The attached screenshot shows a piece of unselectable geometry that's generated after any number of operations. I used Cntl-A to select everything to show it was indeed not selectable.  This one was came from using the reshape tools. I haven't pin pointed which tools cause it and which ones don't but the reshape tools are pretty common causes.  The only way I've found to fix it is close the file and reopen it.  Then you can select the geometry and delete it.  Not a huge problem just a workflow speedbump.

    thanks

archigraphica got a reaction from qapedkat in hollow object?
Here's something I've been seeing in this latest version.  Typically happens when an object is generated from imported geometry.  Started as a closed spline that came in from a DWG. Extruded it up.  Shows as a solid but looks hollow.  Doc doesn't fix it. Tried reversing  and converting it with no luck.  Usually I can pull a face off and extrude it to make a new piece of geometry but no luck.

I did export it as a 3DS and re-imported it into Z. That one looks fine.  There's something here the doc isn't seeing.  Any ideas?

It's exactly for this reason that we need the OLD tool options that you could set the specific number of facets (like most other 3D programs) of a curved spline or surface.  Percentages of 100 don't mean anything when you're exporting.  All the faceting scheme options and there's on where to put in a simple number like "40" so I have 10 segments every 90 degrees. This has been very frustrating since 7.

Yes, that's a decent card.  If you have any performance issues, please send the file so we can help.

The Favorite Tools (that appear when you press the space bar) are Tools -- an not options, so there is no way to add the justification options (at least for now).

Thanks for your suggestions, we will consider these for the future.

archigraphica reacted to andrew in An open letter to AutoDesSys regarding the interface
I think this is a good thread. I respectfully disagree with the last poster. There are a number of very specific requests and specific feedback around the User XP and the workflow and tool problems.  I made the full transition to v8 from 6.7 last year and found the transition to be exciting and terrifying.

Working in an environment that requires high speed modeling and presentations with many iterations makes learning challenging under any circumstance.  The developer has always maintained a certain academic approach to formZ's iterations and has always shown less concern about being in step with other products in the market. I dont think the veteran users of this program will argue that's better or worse.

What we would like to see is the development centered around basic fixing of issues and User XP to be first rate.  The marketplace is showing CAD users and developers that fluid interfaces and stable tools are rewarded with robust user communities and organic growth of their platforms.

Those of us that are dedicating to using and supporting this platform want nothing less for all of us.  My experience on a MacBookPro without a monitor needs to be just as robust as sitting at a high-end PC workstation with two screens, and I need to also share things with clients and partners that have become completely mobile.  Its not my selfish need as a user, its whats happening in the marketplace.
