    Draft layout text

It's been a while since I tried the draft module out. Since 9.1 just came out it seemed like a good time. So far it's actually working well. I'm trying to remember how the text works. The dimension text looks correct while the regular text is all outlined. It says they're the same font. What am I doing wrong? I obviously want it all to look like the dimension text. thanks!

    Draft layout text

Thanks Snow! That's kind of a 1988 Autocad type of feature but as long as it works. Hopefully, this is something that gets updated in an upcoming version. On a side note this is the first time I've tried to use draft/layout on a project and not been totally frustrated. Haven't had a single crash. Fingers crossed!

    Draft layout text

Thanks for the reply. Under "Tool options" there is no way to change the fonts. You have to either click on an existing piece of text or place a new one and it opens a separate "3D text editor" dialog box. But what I don't understand is why I have the dimension style and the 3D text editor both set to the same font but they come up with a different look. We don't want 3D text in the Draft layout module. I have to think this is a bug???
  4. multi-copy transformations no longer show previews? never mind, restarted and it worked again.
  5. This might be the smartest update FormZ has ever done. Nice job! Can't wait to try it.

    Phantom numbers

This seems to be a consistent problem I'm having. Random numbers, often after using a measure command, stay on the screen. They are independent of the file that is open. They stay on the screen in the same location until you close the program and reopen it. Any ideas? Windows 10, 2080ti, 456.71.

    New update 9.0.6

The 2 forums I use on a regular basis are this and the Redshift forum. The big difference (besides what appears to be a much larger user base on Redshift) is the developer response over there is excellent. They chime in on everything. If there's an issue they acknowledge it and if it's not addressable immediately it will be resolved as quickly as they can. They're very open about it. I think there are only like 6 people working on that plugin so it's amazing to me how responsive they are. More to the point they seem to understand that not only are we users but by helping us we're helping them make their products better. There's a lot of threads that don't get responded to or get one initial response and then no additional comments, by Autodessys. In regards to the stability issue... For me V9 has been the best version since V6. I couldn't go back to it but I would love that speed and stability. V9 definitely has issues but it's heading in the right direction. Most of my issues are still interface related. The new Datasmith plugin is the first thing In a long time that gives me hope for the longevity of FormZ. What a great way to triple the userbase in short order. It tells me that Autodessys is finally starting to realize that's FormZ is NOT a great render solution (I know some of you use it and more power to you) but is a FANTASTIC modeler. My perfect scenario is it would become a modeling addon for something like Cinema4D and then you could legitimately have a one package production solution.

    facetted arc segments

I'm trying to clean up a large imported DWG. Sorting through all the linework and connecting or replacing as necessary. Two questions: An old question: When drawing a "facetted arc" how do you control the number of segments? The options panel is empty? In V6 you could input the number of "even" segments you want. There has to be something somewhere that controls this???? Yes, I know If it's set to smooth there are settings they are just not overly useful if you're building geometry to export. I need better control than "medium" of 50%. Also since I'm asking what does it mean when you have "show points" turned on and some of the lines have colored points and some have dark grey or black points? thanks

    facetted arc segments

R2D2 - Thank you! I didn't realize that's what that command did. It would be nice if it was built into the basic Arc tools but that's a great way to go back and fix it.

    New update 9.0.6

The V8 interface was a mess! V9 seemed like a good idea, but they seemed to give up halfway through the design. The screenshot I attached shows what happens whenever I open something in full screen like a Steam game and leave Z open in the background, blank! Even resetting the workspace doesn't fix it. It's a restart. And don't get me started on the Inspector window popup, ridiculous!

    Phantom numbers

V9 is better but still has a number of graphical issues. Interesting about Modo. I didn't know they were comparable?

    Phantom numbers

I'm curious, is this both Windows and Mac or just Windows?

    Phantom numbers

Agreed. It just seems to be getting worse for no particular reason.

    9.1 graphical issues

I just realized I didn't have the most current version on this machine. I installed it, still has these issues.

    9.1 graphical issues

Here is a list of things that are not working correctly on my 1080ti machine. When doing an extrusion, pnt extrusion or 3D extrusion by a specified distance (not dynamic) it offsets the view to the left. Here are 4 screenshots overlayed to show the movement. When moving/copying a circle (and some other objects) the preview is a scaled distance and not actually where the circle is moving. So if it looks like you're moving it 100' it's actually only moving it 50' Where as moving a line the preview is correct. If this doesn't make sense I can make a quick video.

    slope a spline

"Probably because it has been around for at least 25 years in its current state" Great point! Anymore my work consists of fixing disastrous Revit models and building sites for those Revit models. The single most beneficial tool that I could use is something to make sites easier. Get rid of the guessing game that is fixing imported topo lines! Interpolate X feet beyond the generated site. Live boolean. Sculpting tools. A road/sidewalk tool that would fit the topography up to a constructed road. Curb generator. Random terrain function. Retaining wall generator..... now I'm just getting crazy! But it's nice to dream.

    slope a spline

This is something that's probably easy to do but I've never been able to figure it out. I'm trying to model an offramp for a road. There is 30' of elevation change. The ramp has a multi-radius curve in it. I have composite curves for both sides of the ramp but they are only in 2D. How do I make one end of the composite curves slope up 30' so I can sweep a shape along them and build the ramp? The only thing I can figure out is make it a Nurbz curve and fake it but I'd like to figure out something more accurate. thanks temp.fmz

    slope a spline

Thanks Justin. For what I'm doing it doesn't need to be perfect. That definitely works. I run into this situation every so often so I thought I would throw it out and see if I was missing something obvious. Doesn't sound like there is a specific way to accomplish this accurately. edit - hold on, I just figured it out. The stair tool set to ramp. Do one for each rail, pull off a spline and make surface. A few more options in the stair tool and it would accomplish all of it. thanks for all the comments!

    slope a spline

I could even go and distribute crossing segments and use the terrain tool. That seems like more work than it needs to be. All these tools it seems like there should be an easy way to do this. thanks for the reply!

    Fit All = view change

This has been happening ever since I first switched to V8.6. This is a dumb thing but it has annoyed me for years and I just figured out what causes it. Now to figure out how to fix it: I have the "fit all" icon in the upper horizontal tool bar assigned the "F" shortcut key. I've had this same shortcut from as far back as I remember. Sometimes when I hit "F" it works correctly by executing the "FIT ALL" command, other times it switches the view to Axonometric and "LEFT". I assumed this was random but today I noticed something: if I do anything in the "LAYERS" palette then hit "F" it switches to the Axonometric and "LEFT" view instead of executing the "FIT ALL" command. Any interaction with the other palettes and the "F" key works correctly. Here's what I know: - the "FIT ALL" icon works correctly. It's only the shortcut key that doesn't work when you interact with the layers palette first. - Changing the shortcut key to a key other than "F" doesn't seem to matter. - IT doesn't matter if the "LAYERS" palette is floating or docked in the "Palette Dock". - Same effect if you're in Iso, Axo or 3-pnt perspective to start. It always ends in Axonometric. After experimenting some more it looks like interaction with any palette that has the stripes causes the error. I just usually use the Layers palette. thoughts? FYI - I am using a dual monitor setup.

    Dropbox

I just noticed that the Dropbox option is gone? Is that intentional? Also please add to the suggestion list: space those 3 icons out in the lower left corner. I keep hitting the wrong one with my fat fingers. thanks!
