Yes I am on 9.0.6.1 windows 10 pro. I went through the plugin path and so forth before and I did it again. When I first installed it, it did warn me that some redistributables didn't install correctly. That's why I installed it again. At this point I have reinstalled 3 times to no avail... I will try my other windows 10 machine and will let you know.

I initially had the same problem so I dragged the Datasmith plugin folder from (FormZ 9/Plugins) to (FormZ 9/FormZ 9.0 pro/Plugins) and it worked. I don't know why there are two plugin folders for FormZ.

  2. I thought I'd start some pointers for smoother export, please add your own so we can all help each other. I'll add more as I find them.

1• Make sure surface objects normals are pointing in the right direction, otherwise they fail to import into TM. Normals for objects such as non-solid glass need to point out and ground surfaces need to point up.

  3. So far I've only tried out exporting only one model and I'm pretty impressed how fast it is at exporting. Materials are coming in but all need editing as would be expected.

Say I'm working on a model in TM and after editing all my materials, placed entourage etc. and then I have to make changes in the FZ model, how does TM react to this?

Also, are there any rules we should follow in FormZ before exporting? For example, is it better to have UV applied materials?

Anyway, this is a great direction for FormZ and I'm looking forward to getting a smooth workflow between FormZ and TM.

Are you trying to snap to where the clipping plane is cutting your object? I don't believe we have ever had that functionality.

    Best,

    Gary

That's right, it was never snap-able where the clipping panes "cut" the object as it's not actually cutting the objects. Although the clipping panes can be snapped to the geometry so if you draw a line or insert a point or a segment, then you can snap to that. Or even use the grid snap. Use the blue dot to move the pane to something to snap to, not the central arrow.

I think it was always intended to be a graphical tool.

  5. I think if you go to the macs system preferences and then Security & Privacy (General tab) immediately after you get the message, there will be an "open anyway button".

Click that to see if it works. I've had to do that a lot at least once with all of the Maxwell apps (even the nodes, manager etc.) and that includes the newer versions.

    I'm using macOS Catalina 10.15.7

  6. It seems that the missing 2d info is only effecting imported 2d and not 2d drawn in FormZ.

Re-importing the 2d info works. The problem with that is re-positioning.

    Update:

Actually, even re-imported 2d geometry is missing when saved and reopened so a real bummer..

More alarming, and definitely needing a fix: 99% of my 2D plans saved as a layer inside my model have disappeared. Yes, disappeared! PLEASE FIX THIS.

I concur allanjl, the same is happening to me regarding the missing 2d info in my files.

I got a big shock this morning when I went to work on my current jobs with v9.0.6 and all the 2d info was gone!

On a mac using macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Otherwise this version seems good but like allanjl I have to revert to the previous version which sucks.

Pleas ADS just put a text info on the homepage saying "latest Version: 9.06 Build xyz..."

I just did a fresh install and found this version (as always) comes in when you use the download link from the purchasing email.

BTW there seems to be a new Vray version also, it now says Vray 3.6.8 - I also didn't know that.

(this downloads using the chaosgroup sales email)

    Installed now (Catalina still)

    Keep it up...👍

    Yep, that worked, cheers R2D2

Is it only me? I have two Macs having the same problem: Paste with "V" does not paste. Have to use the contextual menu..

Yes PAL, I have the same problem on multiple macs. But it's intermittent, I can't seem to find a pattern.

I initially thought it happened only on files created in an older version of Fz (8.6) and worked on in V9 but I can't be sure at the moment as I'm constantly working on older models.

  10. Thanks for posting these Pipo, they are outstanding.

Do you mind if I ask how much FormZ modelling was involved and if so did you hit any road blocks getting data in Lumion?

Also, was there a team involved or did you do all that yourself? There's a lot of work there.

I think if I were to go down the path of realtime rendering it'd have to be Twinmotion using the UnReal engine as I'm on a Mac system.

    Well done, very impressive!

  11. Just to give further info on the cloud render service in Maxwell.

This is a job I did a while ago but had to remodel and render again for a redesign and had only two days to do it, so I had to render using the Maxwell cloud service.

I gave each image here about 45 minutes. They reached an SL of 18.6 and 19.4 which is ok for the view distances. That calculates at about €3 ($3.50c) each.

The original render sizes are 6000 x 4000 pixels and included an alpha and material ID channel with cars and some planting MXS references.

  12. Hi Martin, thanks for your reply.

Yes it could be the same problem but I'm beginning to think it's something to do with the licensing of V-Ray. I did change computers since I originally licensed it.

I haven't had time to follow it up since I posted this as I've gotten really busy again so I have to revert to my Maxwell workflow to get things done but hopefully I'll get back to V-Ray and get it sorted out at some stage.

Thank you for the feedback. We have the issue logged and hope to have a fix in place in an upcoming build!

For now, you should be able to use the Move tool set to "Repeat copy" in the Tool Options palette to do the same thing.

In the future, please send reports of issues to support@formz.com so that we can better monitor these problems.

    Hello stranger! 😄

  14. Since the last update to FormZ 9, the Duplication Offset only works once per action.

Select an object and use the shortcut for duplicate (command D), it duplicates only once before the object has to be selected again.

It used to be great to use this to duplicate a set distance in any direction by just hitting the shortcut and I realise there are many ways to get around this by using the Transform Move Duplicate or array but I think it should be restored to how it worked before. It may just be a new bug.

  15. I've finally started to play with V-Ray and I'm hoping to complete a project using it, but I've already run into a little problem.

The renderer is working fine when I use the Fz built in v-ray material parameters but I'd like to work on the materials inside the vrmateditor. When I try to open it to do so it momentarily appears only in the menu bar (top left on Mac) and then disappears. I tried opening  the vrmateditor straight from the finder (formZ 9.0 pro > Plugins > V-Ray for FormZ) but nothing happens.

As mentioned I can edit materials straight from FormZ material parameters but that seems a little basic. And so far the V-Ray renderer is running solidly (if a bit cartoony as I'm just learning).

I'm used to working on Maxwell materials in the mxed editor and referencing them into FormZ so I'd like to have the same control.

    Any advice is appreciated.

  16. PAL, I did what you described and I'm getting something similar to what you're getting.

Basically 'parameters > dimensions are not highlighted to be able to just tab and type in the dims without having to click into one box for it to be selected. I've never had to do this anyway so it really doesn't affect me at all in my general day to day modelling and I'm not sure it's supposed to work that way either.

But get this, I had the same versions of two licences of FormZ Pro on two separate iMacs prior to this latest update. Both with the same OS (catalina) but with different graphics cards. One with NVidea GeForce GTX 775M 2BG (7 years old) and the other with an AMD Radeon Pro 5300 4GB (newer). The general dimension boxes at the top of the workspace acted differently on the two machines. On the older machine the highlighted boxes worked as expected and I could change the highlighted box by tabbing. On the newer machine I couldn't which was a real pain having to select with my mouse.

But after this latest FormZ update they are both working as expected i.e.. dimensions box is highlighted and tabbing between them works fine).

So I guess that was one thing that was fixed...

    👏
