    I recently was in a discussion with formZ tech support. They proposed that I could render a portion of my image using the "render area rectangle".
     
    I was always of the opinion this tool would not work with Maxwell (and based on my tests, still doesn't).
     
    Who is right here and if I can use the FromZ render area command with Maxwell, how do I get it to implement the desired crop?

    Hi Pylon,
    I was wondering if in the future you will be adding the function of a "convert components to instances' to the MaxwellZ plugin? I seem to remember it was included in an earlier iteration.
    It would be a great feature if you could, especially for very detailed components.

    When creating a new Maxwell material via "Translate 'Shaded"  and selecting 'emitter' from material hint, formZ will hang when previewing an emitter material.
     
    This works fine using the same plugin in formZ 8.0.2.
     
    I haven't dare tried the latest plugin, because I would need to also update Maxwell, and I have fourteen machines to update.
     
    Any ideas?

    Maxwell was crashing Form.z 8.5 constantly whenever I tried to use Translate Shaded Best Match on my material palette.  Mostly when I hit the preview button to see the end result in my material palette.  So i did the following:
     
    Updated to Form.z 8.5.1
    Updated to Maxwell 3.1.99.11
    Updated to maxwell plug in 3.2.0.3
     
    Same issue applies.  Set up my material in Form.z as I like it.  Usually by assigning Plastic as my material hint with a varying degree of specular reflection.  Hit Maxwell Material button in material tab to adjust it to see if I can get Best Match.  Hit preview button.  CRASH every time! Very consistent. 
     
    Once Again, I am under a deadline because I actually work for a living.  So I am again reverting back to version 8.0.2 to see if I can get back to something that I can use right now.  If not then it is back to Form.z 6.7 and Renderzone to get my clients something they can present immediately.  When I bid a project I do not usually factor in the possibility that I will waste 10 to 20 hours of troubleshooting software incompatibility.  20 years ago maybe but not now.

    Hi,
     
    I just purchase the maxwell upgrade from v2 to v3 but in MXED I don't see any preset or procedural materials.
    I'm on Mac (OS X 10.10.4) and Z 8.02. I find it in v3 online documentation but i don't understand where are the procedural parameter.

    I upgraded to the new release of 8.5 and have installed the latest Maxwell plugin.  I am now experiencing constant crashes and stability issues using Maxwell.  All my issues are related to the materials.  No real pattern to it..  If I take my Form.z glass and convert it to Maxwell Architectural Glass Clear the program crashes.  If I take a texture pattern and go to Maxwell Materials and try to mirror the texture while still in Form.z the program crashes.  If I take a material texture loaded in Form.z and then decide to convert it to a maxwell material and edit it the program crashes.  If I change a material to a Maxwell Material (best match)  and hit the Preview button the program crashes.  Curiously, this is not always the case.  Sometimes it works for 3 or 4 conversions and then........ crash.   Just enough to make the program unusable enough to abandon it once again. Is there anyone else out there experiencing stability issues with the latest release?
     
    It should be mentioned that this is happening on all three of my computers which range from an old i7 960 with an old graphics card to a new dual processor 20 core xeon machine. What is amazing is that the older machine is actually quite a bit more stable with Maxwell.  The fastest machine with the $1000 graphic card crashes the most. 
     
    I have examined the Maxwell Log and noticed lots of Texture Naming Warning Errors which I have tried to correct.  When reloading a texture that was named incorrectly the program crashes occasionally as well.  Other than that there is nothing else to report other than Fire is working about half a fast as in the old version.
     
    I really wish my clients were sympathetic to my software issues but that is never the case.  They just want top quality images produced quickly and efficiently with no excuses for software glitches or computer incompatibility.  I am forced once again to resort to using the old ( ancient) RenderZone plugin with lots of Photoshop post processing.  This is truly a shame since I set up all three of these interior images  to be rendered in Maxwell which ate up a lot of extra time adjusting lighting and materials specifically for this plug in.  What a waste of time.
    When Maxwell works it can be a great asset.  But only on those rare occasions.  Sorry Pylon.  I know you don't like to hear this.  It must be frustrating for everyone involved  when software changes dramatically and compatibility issues arise.

    The first image is the file dump from Fire.  The second image is the render in MW Renderer.  The frosted glass isn't rendering the same way.
     
    It rendered as expected before I updated the Plugin and the Maxwell Software to the latest version.  I was fooling around and I purged the materials in the file and then turned off the texture (switched to plain) in the shaded options of the Maxwell Material Parameters and the glass rendered correctly.  After quitting and reopening the file I was unable to get it to render correctly again and went through the same procedure again and tried many other things as well, but I was unsuccessful in getting it to render again.  Attached are the files.

    I have been trying to render a file but when hit render out of form z I get the error message 
     
     Unable to Write MXS
    C:\Users\bhodgson\Desktop\amada fold\100x160fold View 9 Maxwell\100x160fold View 9 1.mxs   I tried  saving to the file to a different  file folder and i get the same message     using PC version 8.0.02 maxwell 3.1 beta and approved giving same error message.

    If scatter is on in Fire, I can not turn Fire of without getting a formZ crash. (no log remains)
    Any new test projects, same result.
    I can render it though, its only closing fire that causes the crash
     
    FormZ 8.5, latest betas of Maxwell and Mac OS 10.11
     
    Is that only me?

    I recently upgraded from a lock node to floating. When I launch maxwell it sees the the license on another machine, but when i render out of form-I get the following error message. I go and re-activate and it says it activated and it still gives me this message.

    I have been struggling with a new model that a client sent to me.  I would love to use Maxwell to render it out but I can not seem to get it to render at a decent speed even in Fire.  It is a 128 meg file that I have tried to clean up as best as possible but Fire takes about 20 minutes to render a snapshot.  Simple materials (best possible match) and one simple Sky Dome light.  That image is cropped oddly as well.  FYI I am using Dual 2.6  Xeon 10 core processors with 64 megs of ram and a good video card.  Form.z 8.5 beta pro using the latest driver from this morning.  I also found that Form.z 8.0.2 is considerably faster but still way too slow.  What would be the best way to send this file to you to see if it is corrupted somehow?
    I need to figure this out so that I can work with this client on a regular basis as all their models will be created in this way.

    Hi Guys
    Really odd one......2 seats of Form-z 8.5 on 2 separate brand New Strongbox PC's 
    FormZ V8.5 all installed - Both use Maxwell Render Plugin
     
    Have had both same result on trying to preview the emitter button - Just freezes machines and full crash , prompt to close program etc but no option to send crash report either ?
     
    I have tried creating new emitter from fresh AND copying and pasting an existing working emitter from another model.
    Both exact same Crash result - Only crashes when you press the Preview button in Maxwell tab in Display Options menu.
     
    Any ideas welcome.....

    Hi Pylon,
    I realise the extra sampling feature hasn't been included just yet for the MaxwellZ plugin, so this is a future request.
     
    I've been playing around with it in Studio and I'm very excited as it allows me to render parts of a model very quickly while being affect by the surrounding model. This is extremely useful when clients ask for multiple renders showing different materials. For example, on a house I'm working on, I've been asked to provide renders for different roof tiles. I would have had to in the past re-render all the views for the multiple materials, but now I can re-render them using Extra sampling for just the roof. It means I can render the views with just the alternative material and it's mask in about (on this project) 15 minutes instead of around 4 to 6 hours.
     
    So, my query is;
    While setting it up in Studio using the "Custom Alpha Channel Editor", I am given a list of objects to use for the custom alpha. That means I have to pre-name the objects in question in FormZ so I can easily find them while in the channel editor in Studio. As I'm from an architectural background, I tend to name layers as opposed to naming objects in a project, would it be possible to be able to select Layers instead of objects? Or even by material to create the custom mask?
     
    Maybe this is a question for NextLimit, but I thought I'd ask you first 
     
    Well done on the plugin btw, my workflow is improving all the time with it..

    For some reason, Network Maxwell renders won't render with an embedded alpha channel. 
    In FormZ, Under the Maxwell settings, I make sure that Alpha channel is checked and that is set to embed the channel when saving the image file. I make sure that the type of file that is being saved is a .TIFF file. Usually, If I'm just rendering on my local Mac, the image renders with the alpha channel embedded just fine. But when I render on the network using the Maxwell Network Monitor, it doesn't. I just get a flat image, with a black background, and no alpha channel. If I open the .mxi in Maxwell and try to save it as new image file, I get some weird miss matched ghosted image. (see screen grab). Any thoughts on why this happens and how I can get the alpha channel to render and be embedded in a rendering that is rendered on the network?

    This early build solves the issue where MXS References with multiple objects were only rendering the first object in the Reference.
     
    Note that the Maxwell for formZ plugin has not yet been updated, so this issue still occurs in Fire.

    Hi Pylon et al,
     
    While playing around with animation using maxwell, I've noticed that objects/components aligned with the camera don't align in the maxwell frames. It makes sense that it is not compatible as the model would have to write out the main mxd file for each frame (to take into account the rotation of the objects in the file) instead of what it currently does (write out the "BASE" mxs with the model info and much smaller files which I assume are just the camera positions).
     
    Anyway, as a quick workaround for a fast preview of a maxwell animation, I increased the resolution of the Fire render, set it to just SL5 and used the save image button to save out some frames. So, in the animation time line, I click "next frame", let it render in Fire (few seconds), click save image and keep doing that. Then I have all the numbered and rendered frames in a folder which can be made into an animation.
     
    So my suggestion is, would it be possible in a future release of the plugin that this process could be automated?
     
    I use aligned to camera objects all the time and it would be really cool to be able to animate using Maxwell somehow.

    To kick off the new forum, I thought I'd ask something mostly insignificant!
     
    It would be nice if we could display colors by maxwell material ID in the formZ window. Be easier to see what's not assigned.
     
    Not sure if the API supports this, but thought I'd ask.
