    Forum User Numbers ?

I was wondering, some forums let you see how many users have signed up to a particular forum & has the ability to message any or all those user members. I couldn't find how many people are signed up on this forum or if you can message other users. Anyone know if this is possible ? 🤔 I've also just noticed the 'POLL' tab, whats this for ?.........anyone used it & for what....🤔

Hi Chris, One thing I noted in your comments above, that seem to be exactly the same I've read on the SketchUp forum, is there appears to be a certain section of users who just don't use SU-LAYOUT & seems the same with Fz's, DRAFT-LAYOUT. (not that Fz-HQ have yet come to the table with some video tutorials to show its benefits as promised 5/6 month ago) I've noted before on both forum's, it might be a good idea to separate the 'LAYOUT' tool to buy on its own, not only to reduce core programme purchase costs for users, but to also allow the other versions to be used with it. Never got much of a response, although I did note Fz-HQ at that time, did comment it could be a consideration. For me, I've always used 'SU-LAYOUT' to produce architectural plan drawings with titles as an end product for clients from the model & have no issues with it....it's a must for me. I think this is same with other architectural users but other disciplines in the design world don't seem bothered. I'm thinking, architectural users from the SU camp could consider experimenting with Fz-Free, if they could see how well they got on with 'DRAFT-LAYOUT'. Smaller financial steps in today's climate is relevant for tomorrows future.

No prob's, credit where credits due, at least you're trying where Fz-HQ isn't.....🙄 Now you mention it, your PC fan does seem to kick-in on certain functions, I guess running Fz & a recording software makes the CPU fire up more & needs to be cooled down.

Hi Alan, Good effort, I think this proves quick videos even by novices aren't that daunting to make, well done & thanks for sharing. Heck.......Fz-HQ may be calling you for some help.. 😁
  5. To all, RE: NEW FZ VIDEO'S - STRAW POLL Simply put, who on this forum would like to see some New FZ-ver9.0 (Draft-layout-included) short concise video tutorials. Count me in as number 1.

Hi SJD, I just did the same, there appears to be quite an extensive list of vids, with some free-bee teasers on each section. I was thinking, I wonder if FZ-HQ could do a deal with Evan Troxel, buy up his vids & offer them to the Fz community ? As they're quite old (but still relevant), I'm gussing not much traffic to his website, therefore, Evan may be open to some kind of offer to suit all. He may be open to doing some updated ones, just a thought.

The presentation video showing the recent (5 months ago !) Fz-ver9.0 let it self down due to sound issues, I think thats the main reason for the criticism, so whoever it was presenting it, your ok with me, just sort out the sound with new bite size vids & all will be good............we're not looking for OSCAR nomInees.. :-) Fully tuned ? ... Yes, I now understand, so the core version is what it is, with bug fixes or whatever popping up now & then, a normal situation with most software. So unless there are some major issues, I wouldn't hold back on new advertising material, the vids are a must.

I'm sure they have staff that could do this with ease already, afterall, they state one to one online training on their website, so recording new material should be viable now ? I thought FZ-ver.9 was fully complete & on sale as I type, not quite understanding the 'fully tuned' comment.

Yes, Graphisoft part of the Nemetschek group are one of those high end players with ArchiCAD & the group also has, AllPlan & VectorWorks to name a few, another world indeed. However, given some time has lapsed since the release of FZ-ver.9.0. I don't think FZ-HQ appear to be interested in producing new video tutorials to assist with any new sales. Like you noted before, its sad to see such a capable product wallow under the radar for such a long time.

Yes, the friendly chit-chat is o.k. but a tad protracted at times, still good though for two Hungarian chaps from Budapest. One person shorter focussed demo's generally assist better with attention spans. I note a lot of videos on FZ YOUTUBE channel range from under 10 minutes to others around 40 minutes plus. The most popular, (some years ago now...13y) has 101K hits on 3D printing, lasting 2.22 mins, the next one, equally old, (8y) on, Discover Fz Parametric modeling, has 73k hits of 44 mins duration. So people do seem to view these forms of learning material, FZ-HQ just need to find someone like Matthew Holewinski for a re-boot sooner than later, like others have said on this forum.

Hi Alan, Understood, ArchLine-XP is impressive & has lots of tools for architectural types like me. In your field of work, they do have some specific tools for interior design & I believe some basic tools to help with furniture design, although perhaps not as advanced as FZ. Anyway FYI, I found the two YOUTUBE VIDEOS specific to this, see below:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=LthbSFiweJg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM_WB5fLk34&feature=emb_logo

Hi Setz, I often see video tutorials for other CAD/Design programmes being produced by Re-sellers or keen users, but little of that for FZ. However, I did find some intro preview videos for a paid for course by Evan Troxel back in 2017 as avertised on the Form-Z website under the right hand pull down menu: SUPPORT then TRAINING. FZ HQ also state they offer training, but not too sure if anyone uses it at $125/per.hr ? I guess any FZ videos with or without voice overs will assist, given FZ HQ aren't bothering to promote FZ ver.9.00 in this way. Short 'Coffee-Break' type videos lasting 5mins or less I've found to be most helpful. The software to do this (record-your-screen) can be free & once recorded there are similar video editing programmes to fine tune or add instructive text or pointers etc. I've seen some of these TIPS+TICKS pop up from time to time, but did realise they were all listed in one place, so this is a good resource for uses indeed.

It would be nice to hear that from the horse’s mouth so to speak for potential new users (me). Their version 9 promo video, as noted on another post, was very poor indeed with lots of sound issues that made it difficult to sit through & get enthused, that was five months ago. Why this hasn’t been pulled by now & a replacement made has me scratching my head. I think I’m going to go with the full BIM CAD programme that I’ve been looking at in the meantime, https://www.archlinexp.com/ they also provide great support & have plenty of new video learning tutorials.

It’s an odd business plan to carry on in this way if so. I just wonder how sustainable it will be to continue in this direction for much longer ?

Hi Alan, Good to talk on this subject, I guess we're all patient to a certain degree. It suggests there are investment issues as you note, I wasn’t aware of that. However, if the numbers are to be believed with SU sales, why isn’t FZ up there as well ? Perhaps an FZ buyout is needed by a company who could make FZ be a SU-KILLER it should be. They wouldn’t have to do much initially, just some half decent marketing for a start should see some sales. Confidence is key to any new users & that needs to be addressed with continued video tutorial support & written material etc.

VRay Youtube Tutorial by Matthew Holewinski (request)

I just posted a similar Forum message. With no disrespect, their latest version of FZ-ver9.0 promo video, is extremely poor compared with Matthew Holewinski videos. Having someone who has a good voice over & more focussed is essential. H’mmmm !! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg2Ips7zR3M

To all, O.k. back again to see if there are any Form-Z Draft/Layout YOUTUBE videos or even any new videos for Form-Z per-se ! I did have a quick search, but nothing to be found....grrrr. Either I'm hopeless at searching or F-Z HQ just don't seem to understand how to market themselves. I'm an architectural consultant in the UK & currently use DataCAD & SU-Pro 2020 classic licence (perpetual). However, as SU HQ are ceasing the perpetual licence, I & many others will not be moving over to the subscription plan at more than double the cost each year. I guess my SU version will keep running for many years, however, as FZ seems to be the nearest 3D programme to SU, FZ is more on my radar lately. Other than that, I've also been looking at a full BIM CAD programme, this may be the considered direction. I've been teasing myself for years on this subject, so this change by SU HQ may be the ultimate nudge to do something, however, I really need to see some new teaser FZ videos that demonstrate a typical building model, with extracted floor plans+(notes+dimensions etc), elevations & sections etc being used with FZ-Draft/Layout, which I trust is more or less the same as SU-Layout. Just like the many excellent videos below by Matthew Holewinski:- (bring him back for sure) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UslpCswTm1o I suggested many years ago that FZ-Draft/Layout would be ideal as a stand alone product one could buy & use with all versions of FZ, including the free version. The reply back from FZ-HQ was promising, but very little talk since. If ever there was a time to promote FZ due to the SU licensing changes, now would be that time.

Hi Malcineurope, It suggests you watched the 'whats-new' Form Z ver-9.0 webinar ? As a potential new user, I must say it sounds disappointing. As little traffic about this webinar on this forum & reading between the lines, it appears to be so, perhaps that’s’ why its’ not on their YOUTUBE website yet, even with the editing ? It might be better, in my opinion, to just do a set of shorter YOUTUBE videos covering the main items ? I’d love to see some enthusiastic up to date YOUTUBE videos for Form Z ver-9.0, just like the ones done by Matthew Holewinski. I watched again the Form Z-free YOUTUBE video the other day & am still amazed what this basic version can do. What’s that saying again…………’ALL THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT’…..🙄

    Why isn't formz more popular?

Hi Shibui Design, Thanks for your further replies, its much appreciated. I should have said, (to save typing), I've been using SU for many years now & various other CAD software for my Architectural business here in the UK, so am generally familiar with CAD terms & uses & of course what LAYOUT per-se is meant to achieve. This topic, (DRAFT MODULE) or now FZ-9 DRAFT-LAYOUT, I've since learned is under another discussion header post, so this continued over there prior to your reply. I'm still considering FZ-9, but will need to see some up to date video tutorials by ADS on their YOUTUBE channel covering certain tools & DRAFT-LAYOUT is just one I'd like to see.

    Long awaited Draft Layout App.

To all, I thought I'd continue this topic under this heading as wasn't aware initially it was discussed in some detail prior, hence the link above. As I noted before, the SU-LAYOUT separate programme is really just for preparing your drawing sheets with some 2D tools etc for that purpose. So, the FZ version when it was first released, I guess was meant to emulate that principle function but was never too sure how users got on with this. Anyway, trying to play catchup on this subject, I now see the new FZ-ver-9 release notes (as copied below) suggests to some extent, the (old) DRAFT-MODULE is now combined with the previous separate LAYOUT programme & is now called: DRAFT-LAYOUT. It certainly is an interesting move, however I get the feeling & reading some other posts, users who work in FZver-6 as well, will still feel their work flows difficult to attain. form•Z Draft Layout Draft Layout is a new app that combines the features of the classic form•Z Drafting environment (v6 and earlier) and the layout environment of form•Z 7/8. This includes the separate draft and layout spaces from v6 and the sheet management and dimension styles from v 7/8. Draft Space is a real world scale 2D environment. This environment is ideal when you need to work on 2D data at its actual size. Layout Space is a paper scale 2D environment. It is designed for multi sheet layouts of drawings. form•Z Draft Layout and it can open classic form•Z Drafting files directly! The updated FML file format maintains a draft and layout space for each project. The FML format is now much more efficient than previous versions (i.e. files are smaller). When starting a new Draft Layout project, you can choose to start in Draft or Layout space. The Layout mode item in the Display menu indicates if you are viewing the layout Space. Use this to switch between spaces. Layout Space now has a number of features found in the classic form•Z color drafting environment: Color Palette, Draft Pane creation and selection tools.

    Why isn't formz more popular?

Hi Shibui Design, Not being an FZ user, can you clarify why FZ-LAYOUT isn't usable in your opinion & what it lacks compared to SU-LAYOUT please ? When you say SU is unmatched for its line work, are saying line work compared to FZ-LAYOUT or FZ-Pro per-se, in any event, please can you clarify ? Also not quite understanding the FZ 2D/3D split comment, therefore can you clarify that as well please ? Sorry for the questions, it all helps potential users such as me.
