    Hi every body
Twinmotion is simply our favorite rendering engine for 2019
It's an amazing software at the best price (free for me because we gone in 2019l
The renderings quality is really good even it's not the level of maxwell or vray
But the rendering time are of courses more than rapid especially for videos
    The setup time are mainly oriented to improve de scene with a lot of assets in from the  library (not for rendering settings}
    TM import natively. Skp
Si you can find for free assets from quixel to 3d wharhouse
Here is our YouTube channel to see example of our work made with formz and twinmotion
    https://youtube.com/channel/UCkYGCZPEs-6RIv-s4f8gQDg

I've tested the formz datasmith plug-in successfully
    The main advantages are :
The objects  scene organisation is preserved
The geometry is correctly exported (better than with the fbx export that cause problems with solid  objects with hole or open cut)
Objects are imported to the correct location
(with z9 fbx you should set a rotation y-90 and  z 180 for an import with x axe up) Without theses settings fbx are not in the original location or weather effect in tm are not correct (snow)
With the plug-in all of this is obsolete
The only problem I've seen is with Greyscale bump map for converted materials
    (tm prefers normal map
Bump map in tm are reversed
Bump in tm is set by default to 100%
In TM bump should be set to 50% to follow the normal map
Lower and higher values override the normal map intensity
So if you set the bump value in TM to 50% and prepare you normal map for this you can increase or decrease the bump effect after in the TM materials
I would like to pointed hee a very cool software to make tiled (extra) textures included normal maps from images
    "pixplant"
Simply the best software I know for that
You can also use allegorithmic b2m on steam platform) (or substance alchemist if you have money for that) but pixplant is really superior to make tile operations
    Voilà
I would like to congratulate autodessys for win the epic grant
And of course for the super good job
This is simply the best news for me and a super perspective for formz
I will share the info in the exceptional Facebook twinmotion communauty

We are pleased to announce AutoDesSys was a recently awarded an Epic MegaGrant to create an interface between form•Z and Epic’s Unreal Engine and Twinmotion. The Datasmith plugin for form•Z is the first product of this exciting collaboration. This plugin allows you to quickly and easily convert your form•Z 3D model for use in Unreal Engine 4 and Twinmotion. A Technology Preview of the Datasmith plugin for form•Z is now available here: http://www.formz.com/fzsite1219/products/unreal.html

    Des,
Regarding your tip #1, surface objects are properly imported into Twinmotion (and Unreal Engine), but are visible only when the surface normal faces the camera.
If a surface is facing the wrong way, you can reverse its direction as you suggest (using formZ's Reverse tool), OR enable "Double Sided" materials in export options.

    that's exactly the principle ...
The less pallets are needed the more they are placed to the right
As my monitors are not wide (at the time overpriced) it amounted to a wide use (as on a recent monitor in 2560 x 1440)
The area to the left of the right screen corresponds to the dock palette of version 9 in its workspace by default ...
Except that the dock palette is the screen on the right .. much larger and more comfortable ...

I am extremely disappointed by this new built.
All the bugs that I have reported regarding formz 9 draft layout for example have not been fixed.
I reported these problems to tech support by email first then on this forum then
    I got no feedback
Not even to tell me that the problems are confirmed
Even less to say that these problems will be adjusted later if they are not priority
In short, it really gives the impression of making fun of our observations
Besides, I really wonder what it is to piss off testing
It takes a lot of time and frankly what is it for?
I have sent sample files as requested
I told myself that it was just to make me believe that the developers were interested in what we could bring them ...

I'm sorry, but we are really far from the time when the support responded regularly (Paul Helm probably)

Well we understood that when we put our finger on a software defect it was disturbing and we were sometimes entitled to politically correct answers but through which we understood that what we said left the editor cold

But today is clearly no answer at all!
Frankly it is not worth giving us speeches on the investment of the team and blah blah blah!

I remind you guys that formZ 9 is a commercial version, you have to pay to get it and that in return for lack of a perfectly functional software you could at least answer those who (like me) effort to help you improve it.

Now I don't do anything anymore because anyway you don't seem to care

jldaureil got a reaction from Justin Montoya in interface suggestion (palettes)
    Good morning all

At the tool palette it is possible to remove the second level palettes either by a simple flyover or (via preferences) by clicking on it and in addition optionally that the tool at the head is selected directly without additional click.

    Not bad

    But
first problem the second level palette overlaps with the tool palette (not practical) and second problem the second level palette is necessarily detached.

In the past under FZ 6 the operation was quite similar but better optimized:
By maintaining the click on a tool, the second level palette was deployed exactly next to it while remaining attached, by moving the mouse to the desired tool it was possible to quickly go to it.
Then by moving the mouse out of the second level palette this one stood out

    It was much cleaner

Finally it would be desirable (but it never existed) that all of these pallets can be listed in a submenu of the palette menu which would be variable because these palettes can be created by the user ...
In this way it would be possible to have a view of all the available palettes (including those that have been added to the interface)

    What do you think ?

I suppose that in version 9 there is always the "save a copy as" function which allows to save a formZ file with the textures which are used by the file.
I would like to make a suggestion but that is perhaps obsolete ...
Would it be possible to allow the creation of a file which allows to encapsulate the whole scene and all the resources used in a compact format (therefore already optimized and compressed).
Indeed it can be problematic for my clients to recover the scene in spare parts ...

alan and asone and staff if you read me...

I know that few FormZ users use the drafting module.
I also know that the current debate among users revolves around the idea of permanently abandoning this module and inviting users to go to another software. (Others suggest that Autodessys sign an agreement with a third-party publisher)
    But...
1- everything worked very well in version 6 (of course with the limits of the version of the time) We still use it today
2-the choice of autodessys is to reintroduce this module
"form • Z Draft Layout is a new app that combines the features of the classic form • Z Drafting environment (v6 and earlier) and the layout environment of form • Z 7/8. This includes the separate draft and layout spaces from v6 and the sheet management and dimension styles from v 7/8. "

For me it is an excellent decision.
But I think it is also a wise decision on the part of autodessys.
It's nice to say that formz is first and foremost a modeler, it's true!
But without the integrated tools to exploit the 3d model it is autistic software
Likewise, without the possibility of preparing and entering 2d vector data, the modeler is a blind tool.

For me logic can be schematized in the following way:

to note: Ideally the link between formZ 3D and Formz 2D should be perfectly bidirectional and updatable according to change made in 2d or 3D
This is the only function that I have really missed since always.
That is to be able to draw in 2D and insert this drawing on a plan in 3D (vector underlay) and update the link quickly ...
(I tried with the symbol in version 6, it almost works ...)
But it is also being able to produce a cut in 3D and recover the vector slice and the background (vector hiden line) in 2D to compose it with a rendering and enrich it with dimensioning and other ...
I do this manually in version 6
It would have to be automatic and updatable according to the evolution of the model ...

    here
    It's not complicated

    Hello everyone

This section of the forums seems very quiet ...
    I am a little lost.

I had looked a little bit at the version 6 SDK.
At the time I had the idea to see if I could contribute.
For lack of basic basic training and also for lack of time I had to give up.

I feel that a lot has changed
    (python?)

Would there be someone Chris? or Z support that can make a very short history of SDK form Z?
Would it be possible to give me some pointers about the future? (in the perspective of contributing even if I am trained for this)

I have the impression that the project "LAB" is stopped
Do you know who made this contribution that seemed very dynamic and why it seems extinct?

In the past and up to v.6, one could use the drafting module in FormZ to draw just about anything in 2D with accuracy and ease.  With Layout (and unless I am missing something), unfortunately this is not the case anymore.  I understand that FormZ is not a drafting program.  Nevertheless, I only hope that AutoDesSys will consider restoring (and even improving) some of the older drafting capabilities that allowed us to draw anything (from annotated site and floor plans to construction details) in real and not scaled measurements.  Having said this, I believe that creating frames and sheets in Layout with 3D views being directly linked to models could be a great feature to consider.
