  2. Martinez, Victor

    Los Angeles, California

"I must point out what a pivotal and exciting time it is right now for 3D designers in the film industry who are involved in production design. For years, digital design work in the film industry has been dedicated to post production - namely visual effects. However, studios are now beginning to realize the importance of digital design in pre-production. What used to take tens of thousands of dollars in equipment and software, can now be executed for a fraction of the cost (with software like form·Z) on desktop computers. And as fabrication techniques such as rapid prototyping, CNC milling, and laser cutting become more and more cost effective, studios are realizing that the costs to actually build complex sets (impossible to build in the past) versus CGI environments is becoming much more affordable."

  5. Nordberg, Thomas

    Stockholm, Sweden

    http://www.tomasnordberg.com

Thomas Nordberg has been using form•Z RadioZity for several years as a sculpting tool and as a tool to visualize and communicate ideas and creations. Thomas is getting a lot of inspiration for his sculptures and images from modern dance theatre and he is particaularly fascinated by the space surrounding his figures.

The images shown here are all "monotypes" (each copy is unique) intended to be printed on an Epson inkjet printer, on 40x50 cm slightly opaque plastic film. They are then mounted between plexiglass plates. This way they are protected against 95% of the UV radiation. Thomas has chosen plastic film to avoid problems with acids found in most traditional types of paper.

  6. Neves, Rui

    Fall River, Massachusetts

    ruineves@comcast.net

"I have used form•Z for about a year and a half, both at work and at home. I absolutely love it! I expect to use this incredible piece of software for the rest of my creative career! The robot, helmet, and the axe with the chest were modeled and rendered entirely in form•Z, with a few final touch-ups in Photoshop. All of these renderings were created just for fun and excitement."

  7. Neumann, Peter

    New York, New York

    http://www.peterneumann.com

"My background is in photography and for many years I shot still life in my Manhattan studio. I also shot black & white landscapes as well as portraits. I am now a 3D digital illustrator, but I think like a photographer, which is to say I conceptualize in terms of object placement (composition) and lighting. I like to tell stories too and form•Z allows me to do this more easily than any 3D program I have ever used."

  8. Nadurra Studios

    St. Albert, Alberta, Canada

Lima Zulu Two Hovercraft by Alan Henderson

Modeled in form•Z, rendered with ElectricImage, decals and touchups with Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop.

This was a project created in order to bring artist Alan Henderson up to speed on the digital aspects of the Studio. The entire model was executed by Alan with coaching over the phone, because at the time Nadurra had studios in two different cities. Alan was able to put the new program to use as he learned it, finding form•Z to be both powerfully creative and accessible.

"Nadurra is a small studio that uses form•Z primarily for creating still images for publication. This is a new frontier for us and we are very excited by it. Thank you for the opportunity to give something back to the creators of form•Z and for the chance to show off what we do here at Nadurra."

  9. Nadel Architects, Inc.

    Los Angeles, California

    http://www.nadelarc.com
    jackcb@nadelarc.com

Nadel Architects is a design oriented firm, active both in the USA and Asia. As design director, Jack Bouvrie is involved in many of its projects, large and small. "The clients are usually educated in the possibilities inherent in digital media, and are therefore extremely demanding. All of the work is done through extensive 3d modeling, usually begining with a concept sketch on trace, just to give organization to thoughts and ideas. This Quickly moves into a mode of free associating in form•Z, pushing and pulling objects, rotating them in open GL, until something interesting begins to happen." - Jack Bouvrie

  18. Marnell Corrao Associates

    Las Vegas, Nevada

    http://www.marnellcorrao.com
    dkuzmickas@marnellcorrao.com

"It has been a few years since I discovered form•Z. Before this time I had become increasingly discouraged with the limitations of the other CAD packages I had been using in school and at work in an architectural firm. Once I began using form•Z, it was as if the blinders had been removed from my eyes and a world of possibilities emerged. I soon discovered that there were no boundaries with this program; you could design a highly detailed custom home or a juxtaposed urban skyline in much the same fashion.

Marnell Corrao Associates is a Design-Build firm, which has found form•Z to be a highly efficient tool for the fast-track construction projects in which they specialize. MCA works hard communicating honestly and objectively with clients to avoid misunderstandings, delays and unexpected costs. form•Z is a vehicle that provides a forum for discussion between owner, architect and construction manager, where decisions related to the final vision, cost and expectations of a project can be clearly defined.

Our clients rely on Marnell Corrao Associates to Design and Build large complicated projects: Rio All-Suite Casino Resort, Harrah's, Forum Shops, Bellagio, The Borgata, Mirage, Treasure Island, New York New York, Excalibur and MGM Grand. form•Z is a very important tool, which allows us to execute the ownerÕs vision in a way that will allow the public to experience everything with consistency and reliability. Whether it be an entertainment-oriented Hotel and Casino, a Boy Scout Resource Center, a Church or Synagogue, form•Z is the software we relied upon to capture the essence of which the built-project will attempt to emulate and be remembered for throughout its existence."

"We have been using form•Z to develop virtual concepts of products, packaging and merchandising systems, to visualize how things might look before bringing them to production. We use form•Z for model generations and also as a presentation tool for our clients. Some of our illustrations are for production purposes, others are used for materials such as sales brochures and print collateral. form•Z has been an invaluable addition to the way we work, allowing us to develop products, packaging and merchandising systems before production, which adds up to monetary efficiencies and the ability to refine and streamline our products in ways that would otherwise not be possible."

    Martin E. van der Laan
    Haarlem, The Netherlands

    http://www.laan.demon.nl
    m.art@laan.demon.nl

M.art is a one-man bureau run by Martin van der Laan. “As a freelance illustrator it is more convenient to work more and more digitally. Through publications and a friend I got acquainted with form•Z. The logic of the interface and ease of use compared to other 3D-modelers appealed to me. Now I try to do as much as possible with the program. Most are architectural artist-impressions, but the real fun begins when trying to combine two hobbies; boats and drawing. Clearly my clients benefit from the joy I have making the illustrations especially when it comes to lightning the scene. Working with form•Z makes me feel like everything from a photographer to a timber-man.”
