3dworks
i'm still having issues with FZ not keeping any custom designed workspace correctly here, even with the latest update, this is getting a bit annoying. i have reported this so many times and apparently it's not getting fixed yet? it is seriously time consuming to rebuild the workspace each time just to get the same result after restarting FZ. screenshot before screenshot after restarting FZ in case you need the workspaces, please see attachment... i'm using OSX 10.9.5 without any OSX workspaces set for dual screens ("displays have separate spaces" in mission control UNCHECKED). thank you markus 3dworks_workspaces.zip
Rafe Ropek
This is a minor problem, but it's been going on for the last 2 versions. I set up my workspace as I like it and save it, but upon restarting formZ it doesn't quite return to the set parameters. See attachments. iMac i7 OS 10.9.

Hugo
The same issue here on a single screen and on 21-11-2014 I got a reply from support that they will solve the problem, but that was my second request in the last month. First they said, they could not reproduce the problem... Hopefully the whole interface will be re-organized in the near future, it just takes to much unnecessary space on the screen. Recently, I saw Modo and Maxwell interface and, I have to say, looks very professional. Anyway... +1 for solving the interface problem.

Justin Montoya
+3 It's been ongoing since the advent of v7... hopefully if enough people complain, we can get them to actually fix it instead of just giving us another new release!
Alan Cooper
High priority. Annoys me much in 7. I experienced it too in 8 beta. Shame appears not to be fully fixed yet, sort of cheapens the otherwise high quality of the program. This sort of thing wastes production time fiddling to get things in place when gone awry. mleblanc
Any fixes on this ?Workspace is alway a bit off everytime I reopen. Also any clues why the coordinate palette always display so much gray space that could not be reduce ?
Tech
Hi Gentlemen, Yes, we are working on this, but with so many different combinations of monitor setups, resolutions, operating systems, and potential layout preferences, it may not be possible to support every conceivable configuration. Most likely a more integrated interface with fewer customization options will be required in order to prevent any little changes after a restart. Hi MLeblanc, Welcome to the forum! Regarding the size of the Input Palette, this additional space is needed to show additional options and controls. For example, if you get the Rectangle tool and start drawing, you will note the Height and Width options. When you start drawing a Vector Line, you will see the Angle and Distance Fields. And if you get the Move tool and click on an object, you will see additional options there too. Does that explain the gray space for you?
mleblanc
Thx Z I appreciate the effort. This is so important. I feel the whole interface was approached a bit like sketchup, but formz having so much more options would actually require a different approach. A more streamlined interface, with a more compact design and some customization would be nice. I feel that there is so many options that it is like not having any. To me adobe photoshop cs6 or cc is the king of clean, compact yet customizable interface with streamlined, space efficient icons and three modes of gray interface ( light, medium, dark) As for the grey space in the input palette, even with those additional control, I find that there is at least 25% of the total bar length that could be shortened and remains without usage. And I cant get the tool dock to keep only three rows, maybe because of retina, but every time I open, Formz adds a row of grey between the action palette and the coordinate palette and make the overall dock four rows instead of the preferred three. I would actually prefer the tool docks to be only two rows for space saving, but that would require the coordinate palette to be shorter - hence my initial problem. We cant alway work on 30'' screen, workspace efficiency is important to me - I 'm on the road and use Formz on a Macbook pro a lot. (and I don't know how to add image in this version of the forum) thanks again. M
Hugo
ADS should take the suggestions made in this thread serious, because it makes the program much more profesional, and keep simple to use. That's what I like about FormZ. CS6 CC is great interface yes. +

Alan Cooper
Agree, ongoing problem, even with single screen! See attached how all saved and how it re-opens. Save workspace on exit is 'supposed to be' active. This is just one example scenario, as it varies from time to time. Constant chore to rearrange. I wonder if the pick popup palette is at fault as it often pops open of its own accord upon opening, and has done so through versions 7, 8beta, 8 and this latest 8.0.
gtd
form-z is the only app. that I own that seems to have the interface issues as mentioned above. Never an issue with any Adobe products, Vectorworks, etc. on my 2-monitor set-up [unless I would replace a monitor or change it's resolution]. I believe that this problem can be fixed despite all the set-up variations out there.

martinb
i think, at least for the positions and sizes of palettes, windows etc the problems should be fixed easily: just store the positions and sizes and bring them back once the workspace is selected again... now, if i try to position a palette exactly, once i save the workspace (Workspace - New Workspace...), formz repositions the palettes some pixels higher - why? and i still cant understand, why we dont have a file dialogue for saving and loading the workspace - just like for the key shortcuts??? thanks, martin formZ 7 on macbookpro 13"
