Andrew West
I am still trying to get up to speed on FMZ 7 (or 8 for that matter) and still get hung up on simple things that disappeared from 6.7. I used to have an option to render out a small area of the scene from the Renderzone display options. I have gone through the documentation and can't seem to find out how you do it in the new version.

Tech
Hi Dubi, The Render Area Rectangle is only for RenderZone...
pylon
Currently, the render area rectangle is not currently (fully) accessable to plugins, so it can't be supported by Maxwell. However, we believe this may change in the not-to-distant future
Andrew West
Hi Andrew, Just select the Render Area Rectangle option from the Display Menu. Ah ha. So that is where it went. It used to be so conveniently located in the Render Zone display palate. Now it is under the upper menu. I would love to have it back where it was. As for rendering an area of the scene in Maxwell that is actually quite easy. In Maxwell Render there is a tab below the resolution that you can change from full to region, select the rectangle next to it and draw a rectangle around the area you want to render. Andrew West
Another simple little tool that seems to have disappeared in version 7 is the lasso tool in the pick options. The manual shows that it should be right below the topological levels. It is not. At least not on my computer. Where oh where could it have gone. Version 7 seems to me to be a lot like an apple product. Solutions in search of a problem.
Tech
It is available right here in the Area Pick tool options:
