set image size

Hi all

 

where is the 'set image size' option for raytrace renders in v8? (so a defined area can be rendered)

 

it is still there looking at the online manual (but I guess this is an older version?)

I think I preferred the old tick box to be honest - I nearly always have it checked whilst working on a project and only go for a full render once I'm satisfied (seems a shame it's no longer there)

 

is it still not possible to render a portion of a scene at the set resolution of the final image? I would find that option incredibly useful for when small amends have to be made to a finished high res render

Hi Steve,

 

Yes, the RenderArea Rectangle option is a little different from Set Image Size, but achieves the same purpose.  We will see if we can add an option for this to be able to render at full resolution for when a portion of an image needs to be edited.

 

Choose Manual from the Help Menu (or right click on any tool) to open the current online manual...

is there a reason why the check box was removed? this method seems like a step back - not sure how others work but I have this checked pretty much permanently while I am working on a design. I tend only to render the parts I need to see - I can see this being cumbersome in v8

Hi Steve,

 

Unfortunately, in order to accommodate other changes we made to v7 and 8, it was not possible to keep that option exactly as it was.  My initial reaction was the same as yours, but as I got used to it, it is "almost" as good as that other option.
