Hidden Line needs some more work

Compared to various competitors, formZ's Hidden Line is quite bad.  Often there are extra facets showing which I have to troubleshoot to find the best display resolution and/or faceting scheme (which may or may not work).  Then if I have dimensions in the model, forget it, they look horrible in HL.

Lately I've been exporting my models as DWG and opening them in a--ahem--sketchy competitor.  The hidden line here performs just like a shaded or wireframe mode.  Zero lag when panning or moving the camera, rendered instantly.  Dimensions are clean and I do not need to change any of the options (I almost always have to change options in the dimension styles .  The same model/imported DWG in formZ takes about 10 seconds to generate the HL, which I could live with if I was able to seamlessly move around the model.  But that's completely out of the question, the lag is unbearable.

I know HL was recently improved, and it is indeed better.  But compared to the rest of the pack it's still no where near up to par.

Agree, HL is very poor. Recently i downloaded Rhino 3D and the way the dimensions work and shows is just the way i think it should be. Don’t forget Vectorworks! That’s my reference program for how a line drawing with all kind of annotations should look like in a CAD output file.

I Use HL often ( and Doodle!)  I can't understand why shaded mode is so fast and lovely but HL is sooo slow and output is clunky.

AutoCAD, Vectorworks and and other have much better HL. I too export models to AutoCAD, create HL drawing views and dimention there.

Here the way I deal with Hidden Line: never use it. Instead I export always Shaded Full as an image and use it in Indesign. It looks good and the text and dimensions looks good too. Still Vectorworks has in my opinion the leading output quality, very similar to press print work.

+1.  The improvements were welcome, but still it is lacking.

SketchUp HL runs circles around FormZ's HL.  No lag at all!  The display of hidden edges is very well done (they call them back edges).  I also really like their "Xray" mode.

The hidden edges in FormZ should be a lighter grey color as in SketchUp.  It is nice that we can control the line width and style a bit in Z, but even at the lowest line weight and dashed line style hidden edges are far too bold.

I have an iMac 2015 with AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4096 MB.  I can spin the model ok with HL, not great but ok.  Nothing like the butter smooth of SketchUp.  With color or hidden edges on - forget spinning the model at all.
