Illustrator / Eps line weights

Are you trying to import different stroke weights for extruding different thickness lines in FZ? If so you could just outline the paths in Illustrator and that would give you the different weights you can use as profiles.

it's been broken since v8. If you still have v7, that works.

I have v7 and line weights are ok in modelling window and you can export them correctly. But in v7 Layout there is same problem as in v8.5: no difference between Interior Edges and Silhouette Edges.

This broken function should be fixed. When working with Rhino you can have silhouette edges but it is not very fluent process compared to Form Z. But it should be fixed first.

You could create easily trendy BIG style diagrams with Hidden Line render. But now you can't.

I don't think it's a bug, just a feature they had removed for what ever reason. On the export options you can only have specific line weight options and no choice for variable. I usually did that sort of export in MOI3d as a pdf export. Been using FZ mostly for the tougher modeling because of it's wide range of tools and low level editing. Definitely be good to have that feature back.

There shouldn't be option to set inner or silhouette edges if the feature is removed. And now I am talking about Layout. There is not any 3rd party export/import manoeuvres between modelling and layout. There is a bug.

In Rhino it takes so much more time to generate cool line drawings with silhouette edges:

Rhino:

1. Set CPlane to view

2. Run Make 2D drawing command

3. Run Mesh Outline command

4. Adjust lines manually

5. Save

FormZ:

1. Click mouse arrow on Hidden Line render.

2. Save in vector format (Ai or EPS). Please fix this.

Not line weights, I am just importing paths.

If I import for instance the letter A and bring that into FZ, extrude it then try to apply a draft angle the chances is the draft will fail with a smooth 11 error.

If i type that same letter A within FZ and extrude then apply a draft angle it works fine.

My point is it seems that the majority of imported paths tend to have errors or the paths do not seem clean which cause errors and stability issues.

Those same shapes if drawn from scratch within FZ most often work perfectly fine.

My issue boils down to the fact I need to convert logos into 3d art for various purposes such as patterns for casting and mold making. Drawing them from scratch can be a big hassle.

I am wondering if there is a better way to convert or fix imported paths? Object tool doesn't seem to do the trick.

Sorry if this sounded confusing.

Illustrator .AI file import doesn't work the same as it used to either.  Accurate Colors no longer import from the .AI file into FormZ the way they did in 6, or 7.  That's a real shame because it's one of the few reasons I still have to launch v6 from time to time.  Hopefully this is fixable?
