Anwar
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but we really need the ability to search all the list palettes in formZ. This is done in all of the lists in Visual Studio palettes since 2012, and is really needed in formZ too.
Justin Montoya
IMHO, if you keep things organized in layers as you build, you have no need for the objects palette at all. I've never used mine other than working through some CAD garbage file given to me. So for that use, I guess I could see how it could be valuable, if they bothered to name the objects. But then again, if the damn CAD person has just been organized with layers, it wouldn't be needed at all. Layers, know them, love them, use them. It never ceases to amaze me that some people can be so unorganized in their 3D files. Maybe I should start some sort of 'Best Practices'?
snow
this x1000. i closed the objects palette years ago and I haven't opened it since. Exocubic
Antivote. I find the ability to organize geometry by both Layer and Object to be one of FormZ BEST and most useful features. Removing the option to use the Objects palette would be like removing an arm.
snow
Exocubic, I don't think Justin or I were suggesting that we remove the objects palette, it was just a statement about layer/file organization. Organizing formZ objects can be useful by grouping them... but in my experience these groups almost never stay in tact when exporting my formZ files. this is where layers has always fared better for me. Exocubic
Hi snow - when the developers read posts like yours and Justin's, they may come away with the impression that users don't find the Object palette useful; I just want them to hear an alternative viewpoint. ¢hris £und
I too, do not use the objects palette, but in extreme conditions. That being said, however, does not negate the great possibilities to having the ability to search in all palettes. I often use the disclosures to hide complex layer structures. If by just typing a few characters in a diesel would open up the disclosures do display the wanted layers, this would greatly reduce time pecking through even the most organized layer structure. Bo Atkinson
Another vote here for the Object Palette. (Developers, please consider it valued). I use it a lot, a little like a "History Palette" since I almost never use formZ for single types of work, like paid design work, to send around networks or what not. For that matter I have to wonder if A.I. is set to export a lot of modeling work out to the lower bidding world, overseas, like everything else. I use formZ for design exploration, mostly intermittently and rarely with the same tool sets. Rarely anywhere nearly the same category of project-types or material sets, etc.. I also have explored a dozen ways to model particular objects, over the years, so the naming holds the history of which tools were used consecutively. (Saved in Object Palette). As for Search... The only search I really miss is "short cuts" and finer manual-details on how to use rare tool options. Yes I can see that huge projects need user-searches, but once again, this sounds like long lists of individual objects. Anwar did indicate the Object Palette in the highlighted topic of this post. Beyond an 'exclusive' for Layer Pallettes, i subdivide projects to keep them trimmed down, same with object searching.
