Display starts to clip off model after long use

After using FZ for a while the model starts to clip out on me when I try to zoom in. For kicks I tried to check and see if it is machine specific but it seems to be something with the files themselves.

This happens on both my desktop AMD 8350 Win7 pro 64, 32gb mem, AMD Rx480 8gb video and my laptop Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series with win 10 64 bit, i5 with intel integrated video 520 and 8gb system memory.

If i fiddle with the view types it will eventually clear up but then start to clip again.

Restarting FZ doesn't seem to help.

Any clue what the cause is? Do I need a full blown workstation to run this?

Both systems opengl are much higher than the system requirements.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try double clicking on your view in the view palette and see if you have "clip hither/yon" selected.  If so then turn it off.  It appears that the hither plane (closest) is cutting off your image when displayed in shaded view.

I reset the view on my laptop going through f9 for display options and it hasn't happened on that. Seems to be a video issue with the AMD card. Intel 520 is working ok, just slow.

I'm going to check for updated drivers for the rx480 and see if that resolves it. Guessing it is the way AMD handles OpenGL, they always had a few quirks with it.

I can't post that model, it's part of a product going in for patents. I don't believe it is model related, maybe the display adapters I happen to have don't work well with FZ?

If i toggle multi-view then i can zoom in and not have the objects clip off on me.... Odd but at least i have an easy work around.

Guessing I must be just running low on video memory? I can see that happening on the laptop but my desktop has 8gb video + 32gb system memory. Model isn't all that complex either.

That should be plenty of memory.  If it ran out  you would have a system bog down.

Some other quick fixes that I have used in the past:

Reset your preferences to Default

Copy and paste the entire model into a new model window.

Do a "save a copy as" and rename the file.  Be sure to save the texture maps with the model.

Check the size of your texture maps.  Keep them small

Save the model to an old version (prefer to use 6.7)  open it up in the old version then save it again.  Then open it up in 8.5.7

Make sure that you disabled virus protection when you update your form.z software.

I am not sure how AMD video cards handle memory but there should be an AMD control panel you can access.  Check to see if you can add Form.z under "manage 3D settings".

Ken,

Make sure that you are using the appropriate Data Scale in Project Settings > Working Units.  Also try to keep your model near the axis origin.  If you are working far away from the origin it is possible for some graphics issues to occur.  Once it is near the origin, Zoom Fit [command/control + f] the model in the project window

As Andrew notes, Select All, copy, and paste into a new file to see if that happens.

Does that help?

Data scale remains the same for my projects. The problem was the video driver. I had to uninstall the driver from AMD and get the driver from Gygabyte (maker of my card). Now it is incredibly fast and can zoom in all day long!

The video bug does still show on my laptop occasionally but it is an Intel 520 onboard. Hopefully Intel will update that soon.

If anyone has a similar issue just toggle multiview to refresh it.
