where do you get all of your entourage from? (plates, glasses etc)

I made everything in that model. Just use reference photos, it's usually really quick.
I made the place setting is a separate file and used it as a component, I set all the resolution to as low as possible to keep the file size down and for a quicker render.

Really great work. So you essentially have your own form z library, nice.
How does it work bringing in other models as components? I have not really used components with Z. Does the component inherit any materials from the org file? What's best practice if you dont mind my asking. Iv done a bunch of renders but what's really slowing me down to the point where its not cost effective to use Z is that I need to model everything from scratch, cookers, fridges etc.
Suppose the best thing to do is to create my own library. Daunting!

I have built a library over the years but I rarely get to use the parts more than once because most jobs specify different furniture/fittings for each one.
If for example a designer specifies a particular chair type by a particular manufacturer, I search the web for their info on the chair.
If they have a 3d model available for that chair, I'd download it, import, place on it's own layer, ghost the layer and create a new "clean" FormZ model.
I find that way your overall model will be safer, faster etc. The reason is that the nice sample renders of particular models we all see on-line are rendered within their native package.
Once they export to various formats for other 3d applications, their geometry is never great. The quality totally depends on how the original modeller exported it (settings/format etc.).
I find that making my own is actually faster than going through the "cleanup" of an imported model.... mostly.

How would you model say a bed with a messy duvet cover on it, or a throw over a sofa? (Cloth like materials, curtains etc.) Tutorials for this kind of stuff are very few and far between as far as Z is concerned. Do you know of any?

I have used Blender in the past which allows you to "drop" a cloth onto another object and export it out. Otherwise, yes, there are some objects that have to be imported from other 3d packages which have third party plugins for this kind of thing.
Take each project one at a time..

For cloth I use 3DS MAX. Sorry guys. It is just so much easier to create cloth and have it interact with an object. For example: I can create a quick mesh for a blanket- displace it a bit and pull some areas up and down- then use what Max calls a cloth modifier ( you designate the type of material, thickness,etc) and you then designate the collision object (in this case a bed). You place the mesh blanket above the bed and then drop it. It automatically folds itself around the mattress forming creases and such. If you don't like the outcome you just reverse the drop and do it again. Each time it will be different. That is a simple explanation but it takes about 5 minutes to set up and execute. I hope that some day Form.z can do something like that.

Yeah Im familiar with 3DS Max, I typically use either Max or Z but I really hate going between programmes. Blender is way too complicated for me, Iv tried multipe times to learn it but I just cant get into it. Saying that I unerstand that the next release of blender, (is it 2.9?) will have a whole new interface, so perhaps Ill re-visit it. Not being able to import DWG is such a huge drawback for me, but then there's the new EVEE rendering engine, so who knows what the pros and cons will be.
Back to Z, I agree, some tools for cloth would be great. Collide A with B and freeze at any point at which you become happy with the result. Perhaps in Z 9?
