Viewer support for object name property.

Has anyone had success with any viewer to display object name properties?

Ideally, I want one which can be viewed on an Android tablet.

Have tried Autodesk's Autocad 360 viewer for FZ exported as dwg.

Also Autodesk's Fusion, which was very good but still no FZ object names.

Tried opening the file exported as obj which opened in Fusion, but not as well as dwg.

Is it that FZ is not exporting the object name info into other file formats, or that the viewer apps do not support the information exported?

My primary purpose of using a viewing app is for part identification when relating to the cutlist. If when the part is selected it does not display its name, this is lame imho.

I've not got my ipad with me at the moment to see if the FormZ app supports it. From memory, I don't think it did either.

And while on the subject of part identification, wouldn't automatic object balloon labels be a great addition to FZ. Even manual labelling would be a start, maybe as an alternative to the dimensions in leader lines, but a new tool would be better. Has been mentioned before.

Hi Alan,

At the moment the Pick tool is not a part of the Viewer, therefore you are unable to "select" objects and view their properties.  Perhaps this is something we can add at a later time.

Instead, you could set up scenes with various names and turn on/off these scenes when you want to isolate certain objects and give them a particular name.  Does that help?

Hi Tech,

Thank you, it would be great if objects can be selected to obtain their properties, especially object name in future.

I agree scenes are useful, however when we are manufacturing, we sometimes need to identify an object spontaneously, which is possible in the full program but not the viewer.

As we use Android tablets mostly, Autodesk Fusion works well as a viewer for us, but when we use export, does FZ export the object properties, and especially the object name to be available in a third party viewer or program if that viewer or program has the receptor to use the info offered? If not, might you consider including object name in export in future please?

I also hope object name labelling will become available as an alternative efficient method to visually identify object identities without opening the model.

Hi Alan and Tech,

If you export in DWG by Object the objects name are retained, at least in Sketchup. The problem with this format are, or could be, that materials at face level will be lost, and it doesn't support textures.

Thanks Marcelo. I will look further into this when I get time over next few days, so from what you say, sounds like the object name gets into the dwg file but is not picked up by the viewer. Maybe worth exploring other viewers, or viewer settings.
