Symmetry and mirroring

I've been reading the mirror section of the manual and am trying to figure out if there is a way to quickly mirror about an axis.  I'm used to modelling on the origin point and being able to Center Selected on a particular axis and also selecting an object and mirroring about an axis.  It's fast because you can select an object, hit a shortcut key and click a pop-up of the axis of choice.  This also means I don't have to snap to two points to get the correct mirror point.  Is there a way to do this?

Thank you.

Currently, there is not.

while not the same as you are asking for, there is an option in the tool options dialog that allows you to work a little faster than the default.  "perpendicular to draw line"

At least, I find it faster.

in V9 when scripting is once again active, doing what you describe would be no problem to set up.

And which option might that be?

Scripting would be cool.  There a are ton for modo including a couple of less cluttered interfaces.  Do you know if FZ is getting a interface overhaul anytime soon?  I've mentioned the Luxology Nexus Framework to support on the two times I've called over the years.  I recently saw this "From MODO 801, there's a new type of server that can be created, called an ILxCustomView, which allows 3rd party developers the ability to create custom UI and have it embed as a viewport into MODO. As with the rest of the SDK, this is also available through python using PySide." and depending on the python implementation maybe something like the Zen interface from Mechanical Color could be worked out.  It must be a daunting task though.

See attached image for the tool option mentioned.

I couldn't say regarding any kind of interface overhaul, as I do not have an inside track into the workings of the company.

Considering the current interface is fairly new, I would doubt a complete overhaul any time soon though.

Scripting used to be available, in versions 5, 6 and 7 (I don't think 7 actually had anything new from 6 though)  however, it was a unique language called FSL.

Which, really was C syntax with fZ specific additions. ADS, has stated that interface tools with Python should probably not use external libraries, though other libraries for other purposes should be fine.

I had always thought the interface generation in FSL was always weird to work with.   From what ADS has shown us, we should be able to do more with interfaces

easier,  though I suspect truly customizable interfaces will still be regulated to the full SDK, which I had never gotten into.

At this point, I just want to start scripting again.  further capabilities are fine is they come later.   Except access to custom attributes, I want that now.

Hi Tech,

Yes, it works.  It is just more clicks which is a slower and snap dependent method.  After a while, I found out that you also have to select the correct work plane first, otherwise the snapping doesn't work right.   Thank you.

Sorry, I was using the Mirror as opposed to Mirror About.  Mirror about might be useful, but since I had no geometry on the up axis (z in FormZ) at the center to go off of, I would need to place guides first.  I didn't see any difference with the Relative to Reference Plane checked.  I will definitely play with this tool more.  Thank you.
