Animation troubles

Hi Mark,

Yes, if you go to the formZ Help Menu: Animation Manual, this will open the animation manual for formZ.  Expand the Table of Contents, and check out the series of Animation Tutorials that are listed there at the end.  Go through a few of these (starting from the first tutorial), does that get you going in the right directoin?

  • 2 months later...

Hi there,

I'm new to the animation side of Formz and have a question with I test file I've created to apply to a more complex model.

I'm attempting without success to get the view point to follow the camera though the tunnel along a bezier path, passing a couple of cubes on the way, once I've selecting the view I've created called camera.

• I can't get this to happen, the screen defaults the size of the massive bounding box, If I move the rectangle closer to the camera it defaults back to a distance that is too far in front of the camera, with a fixed point of view rather than chase cam.

File Attached. <Animation.fmz>

Any help on the above much appreciated.

On another matter when saving a file in v8.5 as a template to use when opening a new project I get the alert:

"This file was saved in a version of FormZ older than 5.0 on Mac OS.

Please resave the file in version 5, 6,or 7 and reopen."

If I use the open command it opens fine but not if selecting a New Project.

Thanks in advance Andrew

Andrew,

I assume you are trying to move the camera through the curved tube, correct?  Your current view is too wide, you need to zoom in as if you are going to use the Walkthrough tool in the tube, add this view, and then animate along the path.  Also, it may be easier to try to align this complex object with the XYZ coordinate system to give better control of the camera.

Also, resave your template in 8.5 with a different name and then change it in the preferences to the new file.

Does that help?

Thanks for your prompt reply as usual.

The first time I opened the file you replied with and hit the view button the POV chased the camera, I made another view with a slight change and the POV remained stationary and the camera disappeared down the tunnel, I went back to your view and the same thing occurred.

Can you clarify if the View is the same as the Walkthrough tool you mentioned, as the Walkthrough (Footprint Icon) has no effect.

Please can you let me know if there is another process I need to do the get the POV to chase the camera.

Again thanks in advance

Andrew

Andrew,

Position the camera where you want it to start and make it active to make sure it is the correct view.  Add this view.

Then zoom out, select the Animate Along Path tool, click the camera, then the path, and se the Tool Options.

Lastly, make the saved view active again and press play on the Animation Time Line.

Does that help?

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try, while I have your attention, FormZ Layout crashes everytime I launch, deleted the prefs but still crashing any ideas?

Thanks again

Andrew

Hi Gyro,

Which version of formZ Layout are you using and on which operating system?  You may need to download and reinstall Layout if it did not update properly.  Please email support@formz.com for further assistance and we can send you a download link.
