Andrew West
I have never used components and frankly I never want to. I have read way too many posts about troubles people have with them. Now, however, for some bizarre reason the program just started making every piece of geometry that I build into a component. What is up with that and how do I stop it from happening? More importantly how do I convert them back into basic solid shapes that I can modify, texture map and use? If I use the component explode tool it destroys the geometry. Even if it is a simple rectangular beam. I just tried selecting my whole model to put it on a new layer and when I hit the layer tool the program asked me if I wanted to make a new component or upgrade the existing one. When I hit upgrade the program hung for 30 minutes and then crashed. Lost two hours of work again.
Tech
Dear Andrew, You don't have the Make Component option checked in the Move / Transform Tool: Copy Options, do you? And if you get the Explode Component tool, Select All, and click in the screen, does that not revert your components to objects? If you are still having any trouble, please send a link with your file to support@formz.com so we can see what we can do to help further.
Andrew West
You don't have the Make Component option checked in the Move / Transform Tool: Copy Options, do you? I have looked everywhere for that Make Component option you mentioned and I can not find it anywhere. It is not in the T-form menu. See attached. I did find that option in the manual but it doesn't exist in the program I have. Build is 9897.
DMclean
Andrew, It should show up when you pick one of the copy options in the Tools Option. It isn't there in the default Tool Options until you select one of the Copy Icons...... Doug
Andrew West
I see. I found it and it was NOT selected. So I am still at a loss as to why my program is creating components out of the blue.
Tech
Hi Andrew, Well, it is possible to change the status of the option, but without further details, we can't say for sure what exactly happened in your case...
Andrew West
Renaming the Form.z folder solved the problem once again. Why is that? Seems like a strange solution to any software problem. BTW this project was a redesign of an existing model built in Revit. When imported I made sure to select the option to EXPLODE components upon import (the default option). However, I did notice that there were components in the model after import. Like the program missed them somehow. Now that the folder has been renamed I imported the model again and it had no components. Weird.
Tech
Hi Andrew, Well, resetting the preferences would reset the Import (and other) options that would certainly affect the end results. However, it is not possible to say what happened exactly (based on the information above by itself...)
