Selection is lost when panning

It seems like a bug to me that when using the arrow keys to pan, what has already been selected gets dropped.

To make a large selection, but where you need to zoom in close to do so accurately where there are other items which would otherwise get included, it is essential that this should be possible. As you will see, I am trying to move points. Short movie attached.AS2016.08.1901875.wmv

The issue can be a problem in many situations, however in this particular case, I was able to make required selection zoomed out at full view. The selected points wouldn't move anyway. This is another topic altogether, due to smooth objects, and some of them having been mirror copied. I am in wire frame view. I've mentioned it before and appreciate that it is beyond Autodessys control due to Spatial needing to make improvements, but it would make my work so much more efficient because smooth objects would be nicer than faceted if only they would behave better when moving a large selection of points or segments.

Sorry there are 2 issues going on in this thread, but for the second issue, I have discovered a work around. If a smooth object refuses to respond to points or segments moving, it can be resuscitated by slicing by line and unioning together again. I assume that action resets the axis for the object so the software has less to think about.

Hi Alan,

We can't tell from your video, but if you want to make an Area Selection -- and then you want to add another Area Selection to that and not deselect the previous parts, you need to hold down the Shift key when you start the second selection.

If you are wanting to maintain the area selection while panning, that is not something that is currently supported.

Regarding moving parts of Smooth objects, this is not nearly as simple as you may think, and we have recently added some improvements in this area, but as you mention, we will need additional support from Spatial Technology to make this possible in more cases like you show.  And as you mention, Cutting the object, moving, and then re-joining the parts should be a fairly easy way to achieve what you want.

Thanks Tech.

What surprises me about not being able to make a continuous single selection (not multiple selections) while moving the viewing window, is that it is possible in other programs, and also in FormZ you can have the view window scrolling when dimensioning something too large to be precise in one window. If it isn't a bug in my opinion it needs to be supported.

Alan,

Do you have Auto Scroll turned ON under the Window menu?  This should allow you to make a continuous single selection while moving the viewing window.

The reason I ask, is that there was an Auto Scroll selection bug several versions back that has since been resolved for us.

Hope that might help.  Cheers!

Thank you Justin, yes I do thanks, but you are right and thank you for the solution. Too bad that I can't use the arrow keys, but I will just change my habit and auto-scroll with the cursor instead. Thanks again for pointing out the alternative method.

The reason I liked the arrow key method is that once positioned, the height [if scrolling sideways] remains constant whereas when using the mouse the position can jog up or down a little which can affect the selection of what has gone out of sight if selected segments or points are very close to unselected ones.
