CWilliamFox
I have followed the sequence of commands in the Webinar titled. "formZ, bonzai3d,and Maxwell together -- unleash your creativity". There is a section of this tutorial on MXS commands using the Scatter tool. I have been able to insert a singular object using the Extension tool at the bottom on the lefthand side. But when I try to use the Scatter tool in the Tool Options palette as shown in the tutorial I get NOTHING. What am I doing incorrectly?
pylon
Hi, You may be confusing Maxwell Scene References with Maxwell Scatter; they are different services . Please review the information we have linked to below: MXS Reference Documentation: http://support.nextlimit.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=20711231 http://support.nextlimit.com/display/mxdocsv3/Referenced+MXS+files Maxwell Scatter Documentation: http://support.nextlimit.com/display/mxdocsv3/Maxwell+Scatter http://support.nextlimit.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=20710744
CWilliamFox
Thanks for your reply. The previous forum issue on Extensions is now working fine. I can Create and Place a singular MXS file at a time. But now I have been trying to use the Scatter tool. I have followed the tutorial video offered by John Alexander of formZ, but have not gotten the same results as shown in the video. In fact, I have not had any response from using this sequence of commands. I have attached an image of John's tutorial and have been trying to place trees as he did. This is the same tree I can insert v
pylon
There is no tool called "Scatter tool"... did consult the documentation we linked to? Can you link to the video you are referring to, and let us know what the time is (mm:ss) at the point you are referencing?
pylon
Hi Bill, I found the video. At 19:28 John is demonstrating the "Place MXS" tool. As he has just saved a MXS with the "Create MXS" tool (18:58), the new MXS is automatically loaded into the "Place MXS" for immediate usage. If the Tool Options for Place MXS were open in the video, you'd see the filepath to the MXS specified. Normally, you'd need to specify the MXS in tool options before beginning to place MXS instances. Later, he shows a another feature: the Scatter object modifier. He ran though the steps pretty clearly, but note that you'll need to specify the MXS you want to scatter in Scatter options. Go to around 22:28 in the video to see the UI for this.
CWilliamFox
I have gone through this many, many times. John makes it look so simple. But when I do it at the end I have no objects displayed from the MXS files in the Fire window. AND I DON'T KNOW WHY!!! This is soon frustrating. Is there something I need to RESET, or what am I not doing correctly?
pylon
If you are working with MXS References, have you enabled the display of References in Fire Preferences? (Fire Palette -> Gear Icon) If you are working with the Scatter object modifier, have you enabled the display of Scatter in Fire Preferences? (Fire Palette -> Gear Icon) If you have enabled these features, and are still having an issue, please please send a simple formZ project which reproduces the issue, along with all dependencies, such as MXMs, bitmap textures, etc. Please ZIP the project and dependencies and send via Dropbox (or equivalent) to We'll have a look and report back.
