Render errors

Hi Pylon,

I thought I'd do a few tests of a project I'm working on at the moment, I'll be adding a lot more detail later. Some of the flat surfaces are getting render artefacts when all the layers are turned on. If I render the flat surfaces on their own, they render fine. Could this be a memory issue?

Thanks,

Des

Hi Des,

It's not going to be a memory issue. Two thoughts:

1. Did you check for coincident or nearly coincident planes?

2. Are there any objects of any type very far from the origin? (Make all objects visible, select all, zoom to fit)

Does this help?

I checked your points above, but no coincident planes and all are near to the origin.

I've emailed you a link to download the model if you want to have a look, but only if you have time!

Thanks a lot,

Des

Hi Des,

Thanks for sending your file.

In formZ, when a smooth planar surface object has many points and the display resolution is set to very high value, the UV texture mapping occasionally exhibits errors. There are two solutions to this issue; either should work.

1. The easiest is to adjust the display resolution of the problem objects to a lower value.

Here's your original, where the surfaces are all set to a display resolution of 100% Note that you can see some artifacts in the Shaded rendering as well, though they do not appear in the same way, and are in different areas.

Adjusted to 50%:

Note that 50% is not a magic number; in some cases, you will need lower it further to eliminate the artifacts.

2. If reducing the display resolution is not acceptable, keep the display resolution the same and extrude the objects by a slight amount. This should get rid of the artifacts as well.

Thank you so much for your time on this Ben.

Yes, I had set it to high resolution so I could use the outlines to get cleaner kerbs as I will have to render a few close ups. I should really turn the res down again on the planes.

I had thought this was a Maxwell plugin issue so I posted it here.

Nice tip about the slight extrude btw.

Otherwise the Maxwell plugin (early builds) seem very stable for me, no other issues to report  :D

Solid as a rock as they say..

Regards,
