formZ Free and formZ Jr have both also been updated.

Any of the corrections for formZ Pro that also affects these will be included automatically (but the addition of FBX is only for formZ Pro and formZ Jr -- not for formZ Free).

One other issue related to this upgrade that is worth noting:

With formZ 8.5, OpenGL Multi-threading was released, increasing the Shaded Work and Shaded Full performance.  We found that there were a few combinations of video cards and OS X systems (on Macintosh only -- and perhaps more likely with add-on higher end nVidia cards) where a potential instability could arise.  As such, we have added an option in the Edit Menu: Preferences: OpenGL section allowing you to disable this feature (if necessary).

This is a fairly isolated case, but if you repeatedly receive a formZ crash log that indicates "OpenGL Multi" in the "crashed thread" (typically Thread 0), then you should disable this option in the preferences to solve the issue.

Hi Robert,

We have created a new thread for your follow up question regarding the Large Cursor Preference item.  You can find this here:

Thanks for the updates!  Particularly components where I continue to have issues (prior to this update).

Can you elaborate on Multi threading?  Is this for general modeling or only viewing, spinning, and moving the model around?  I spend 95% of time modeling (including texturing) and only 5% or less rendering...especially as of late for a variety of reasons, which meant I had to bail on the VRay beta testing.   :(

This means single core processor speed is (or was?) of primary importance.  I am planning on upgrading my aging Mac Mini (finally!) next week to either an 27" iMac with the 4.0 GHZ quad core chip or a 6 core Mac Pro.  I have been debating the pros and cons of each machine, but multi threading might swing things in favor of the Mac Pro.   The iMac seems to be about 20-25% faster in single threaded performance so I had been leaning toward it.  Thanks for any input in advance.

Issue persists where if tooltips delay is set to the default 1 sec, when reshaping, a digit can be ignored. I have just updated my main laptop to a more industrial Dell Precision M6700 so my hardware should be coping very well.

Steps to reproduce:

Draw a box.

Reshape an extrusion or cube etc by turning on the reshape tool by keyboard shortcut (I use P)

Mouse over a face of the box.

The face highlights.

Click on it and drag the mouse slightly so the action palette shows a positive increase.

Type 520 for example fairly quickly.

Sometimes 20 will be entered into the input palette instead of 520 and that will be the reshape amount instead of what was expected.

People:  Glad you are liking the update!  :)

If possible, if you have a question or issue that is not directly related to the upgrade, if you can create a new thread for your question or issue, that would be preferred.  The Start New Topic button is located in the upper right corner of the forum topic page:

Asone:  OPEN GL Multi-threading allows your graphics card to use all possible cores to improve the performance of the OpenGL Display, which affects the on-screen redraw speed of the Shaded Work and Shaded Full display modes so both navigating and displaying of modeling commands will be faster.  And from the PDF posted above:

With regards to the machine upgrades, the iMac's work quite well, but if possible, if you can run some quick tests with something that is not as fast as you would like, you can then directly see the difference in speed for these tasks and make a more informed decision on which computer would be best for you.  In general, it is better to plan to upgrade your computer every 2-3 years, and spending less now so you can upgrade sooner will give you a faster machine in the long run.

Neurascenic:  Yes, thanks for the reminder, we are working on this!

Alan: Yes, not all issues could be addressed before this update was released, and the Tool Tip issue on some Windows computers is something that we are still working on.  Hopefully this can be addressed in the near future.

great to see a fix for those crashes, but i would have preferred opengl multithreading in FZ using all resources of my graphics card - an nvidia 980 ti. will it cause a big decrease in display render performance? i invested quite some money into getting the best card for my mac pro, and as far as i can tell from my working experience here, it is supported by almost every other graphics and video application, so should be by FZ.

EDIT: would it help to use "el capitan"? i am currently using latest version of "yosemite" on my macpro.

cheers

Hi Markus,

This is not a problem that should be encountered by a lot of people.  Are you having instability issues that are solved by disabling this option?

If so, please start a new thread and include all your details so we can follow up on that...

post-366-0-78787000-1454963593_thumb.pngHi there, I'm having some trouble with the automatic update in FZ 8.5.0.2...

The software sees the update, but is unable to run it... I'm not too certain what this problem is about. I have had this installation of FZ for quite a while now and never seen an issue with my application authorization before....

should I download from a different location instead?

Dear David,

Sorry you are having trouble.  First please try what the message says -- re-register your software and make sure that it is registered properly.  Then try to update again.

If you have any further issues, you should delete your current installation (Mac) or Uninstall (Win) and download and install the full package from here:

If you have any further issues, please start a new thread and include all your details so we can follow up on that...

Dear David,

Ok, we would like to help BUT we have already posted the above 6 times in this thread alone, including in bold directly to you.

Please start a new thread and we would be happy to help.

Dear Hutchy,

As we have noted 6 times previously in this thread; if you have any issues that are not related to getting the update directly, PLEASE email Support@formz.com, or START A NEW TOPIC!

We are not sure why you would get that error.  Please send a file or two that gives that message so we can take a look.

Dear David,

We are not sure if you ever contacted us directly, or posed your question in a new thread, but if Register is grayed out, first choose New Project from the File menu.  If Register is still grayed out, try the Check for Update, dismiss any message that may appear, and then try to Register.

NOTE that the Start New Topic button can be found at the upper right corner of the desired forum page -- and the link is included below for your convenience:
