setz
An added functionality to the Independent Scale Tool that would snap to zero:
Tech
Hi Robert, Scaling by Zero can be quite useful to "flatten" the surface of a terrain, or a line as you show. However, it is also a bit "dangerous" as it can create zero area faces, duplicate points (which it would as you show above), etc. We will consider this request and see what we can do -- especially given the potential problems it could cause (perhaps a warning when such problems occur and an option to continue anyway?). In the mean time you can scale by "almost zero" if you first set a small unit accuracy, and then scale by (in your case 1, .0000001, 1).
setz
Yes, currently I do scale by inputting .0000001. Note: if you enter .00000001 there is no scaling performed. The warning would be a good idea with the option to dismiss in the future.
