Physically real ball hinges are very limited in free rotation, but "a virtual ball hinge" ought to rotate in any direction, unencumbered.  

 

The updates in planes functionality does solve some difficulties with aligning plane-independent-geometry, but the ability to rotate free from all cartesian concerns,  is far more powerful and productive.

 

Architects seem to be headed away from the straight and narrow, sufficiently enough to value such a tool.

I would just add, that aligning objects, by snapping  3 points, to other geometry, successively, before terminating the function, would be the main method offered.  Perhaps the system would achieve this by determining appropriate planes, automatically.   Or, does geometry really need planes to function?
