Shadow Line Problem

Recommended Posts

Don't think this is really a Plug-in issue, but I've noticed a very harsh shadow line on cylindrical objects in Maxwell and wonder whether anyone else has come across this. I've attached three jpegs that show what I'm talking about. Lighting is Physical Sky, default settings. One object is a Cylinder the Other an Octagon. Left side of image is Maxwell, right side is RenderZone.

Lighting position remains the same, camera position changes.

The first render is pretty much what I expect.

In the second which is an extreme side/back light situation I get a very harsh line which is not what I would expect. I'd be expecting something more like the RenderZone version.

Third render is same as Second, but with no textures.

Anyone come across this or have any thoughts on how to deal with it?

Thanks,

Doug

Hi Doug,

The formZ bump default is 100%. The Maxwell bump range is also 0-100%, so we pass the bump parameter without modification.

Just use what looks good... I have found most grayscale bitmaps look great with higher values. You are re-using the color map for the bump channel, rather than a true bump map; it might have something to do using the color map, but I am not positive.
