Shibui Design
Is there any successful workflows that allow Renderzone's decals transfer to Maxwell via the Maxwell Render plugin within FormZ? I've tried several ways to do this but none seem to work. For example, I have a brushed aluminum background (using texture map) and want to place a colored logo on this surface. Is the work around to create another piece of geometry only for the logo? Hoping for a better solution than this as most of my work makes extensive use of Renderzone's decal tool. rob
They can't. Use a Texture Map and an additional surface if necessary...
Shibui Design
I'll give this a try. Just curious- does this cause any unwanted shadows or produce artifacts? Obviously the two surfaces cannot be coplanar, but should be separated by a very small gap.
rob
not if you turn off the shadow casting of the 2nd plane...
pylon
Hi Envdesign, Renderzone is a separate, optional, rendering plugin; Maxwell is not aware of functionality it provides (or vice versa). (Maxwell does 'listen' to the native Shaded render settings, however, and can automatically translate those settings into a Maxwell material: See Translate Shaded. ) Options: 1. Use a very slightly offset surface to map the 'decal' to, with an alpha channel for transparency. 2. Make a Layered MXM material, and material-reference it: http://support.nextlimit.com/display/maxwelldocs/Stacking+Layers http://resources.maxwellrender.com/search.php#page=1&mode=1&search=maxwell%20graffiti&v1=0&v2=0&tipo= 3. Use Maxwell Studio and create additional UV Sets for your object. This is equivalent to renderzone's "decals." http://support.nextlimit.com/display/maxwelldocs/Working+with+UV+sets+and+textures+in+Studio (For some workflows, you might then save the MXS, and then MXS Reference it from within formZ.) If UV Sets become part of the native formZ Shaded renderer in the future, we will update the Maxwell plugin to translate them automatically. Shibui Design
That helps. My workaround thus far is adding another surface and using texture map instead of decal. UV Sets would be great! Hopefully this will be implemented in the near future.
