setz
Is there the possibility of enabling copy and paste from V6 to V8? or perhaps a script that would do this?
Alan Cooper
I thought it would be very unlikely, but seeing that it is the weekend and you will need to wait till Monday for reply from Tech, I tried to do this with a simple object from V7 to V8 as it was a very quick experiment to perform. It did not work either. So it looks like you need to save a copy of your v6 file, open it in v8 and copy the items you select from there? Both files can be alternately accessible from the Window menu in V8 so you should be able to perform your task that way. IMHO I would be surprised if Autodessys would think this probably rare request worthy of a script.
DennisA
No you can not copy from 6 to 8. You can add fmz 6 files to 8 in add to project on open.
Tech
Hi Robert, formZ applications utilize their own internal clipboards, and at least currently there is not an option to paste from one to another. Perhaps the easiest way to do this would be to select the desired objects, Save A Copy As, choosing Picked Objects Only, then Open that file in the desired version using the Add to Project option. setz
For the reverse trip V8 --> V6 "Picked Objects Only" is greyed out In the Save A Copy As dialog. Could code be written for this option to function? I do it manually now by saving as V8, then reopening that file and then saving it out as V6 but this must be able to be automated right? Tech
Hi Robert, Picked Objects Only should "only" be grayed out when no objects are picked. Did you test with Picked objects?
setz
For opening in V6, I've selected Save As V6. With this option they're greyed out. One ghosted One visible One picked
Tech
Hi Robert, Whoops, yes, that option does gray out when saving to the older format. We will see of those options can be enabled when saving to older formats...
