Adjusting many Cone lights at the same time

In FormZ/Renderzone there was the facility to use light groups to adjust many lights with one slider.

Now that you can have cone lights in FormZ/Maxwell it would be good to be able to adjust many lights in the same way.

Also when rendering an MXS file and using multi light I was hoping to be able to gang together a number of lights and adjust them together. Is this possible?

Again - this would be highly desirable.

Before Cone lights were available you would use an emitter material to produce a spot and if you reused the same material for a number of spots this enabled you to adjust many lights at the same time. Of course you can still do this but much easier to use cone lights (or IES lights) as you can make ceiling lights without having to cut holes in the ceiling for the light fitting.

I am rendering an exhibition stand at the moment for which this would be very helpful...

Will attach a rendering tomorrow..

Z support:

Are there plans to open up light groups to the SDK? This would be so beneficial for Z / Maxwell integration on many fronts.

the cadman:

If you create Maxwell lights using emitter geometry and MXM's in FormZ, then all emitters with the same MXM material will show up in multi light on one slider.

Gary

thanks - I am aware of this

However if you use geometry to effectively give you a cone light that is a downlighter and therefore embedded in the ceiling then you have 2 options:

1. Make the geometry and cut a hole in the ceiling every time you place a light

The downside of this is that it is difficult to move as you have to move the light fitting and the hole.

2. Make a light fitting with a modelled cone that is then made to be hidden from the camera

The downside of this is that you get a radiosity shadow of the invisible cone

If you use a cone light then it can be 'surface mounted'

The downside at present is that it is not linked to any other lights in order for it to be adjusted as one bank of lights

(unless there is some way of adjusting a number of the lights in the multi light panel in Maxwell - anyone found a way?)
